Shelly Wall Frame - Double

What a Shelly wall frame double is for

Two Shelly Wall Switch buttons side by side in one wall position, held square and finished with a single plate so the result reads as one switch rather than two things near each other. The button is the part your finger touches; the frame is what makes it look like it was always meant to be there. Without it you have a button and a hole in the wall.

Count the buttons, not the circuits

Order the frame that matches the number of buttons the position needs. Two buttons side by side take this double frame; one button takes the single. That is a different count from the number of circuits, because a four button Shelly Wall Switch plate is one button assembly, not four. If you are unsure, tell us what you are fitting and we will say which frame goes with it.

Black, and matching

The frame plate comes in the same colour as the frame, so the whole assembly is one finish. Black suits a dark wall or a wall where the switches are meant to be part of the design rather than disappear into white paint.

The switch is not included

This is the frame alone. You need the Shelly Wall Switch buttons and, behind them in the back box, the Shelly module that actually does the switching. All three are separate purchases, which catches people out.

What to order alongside it

The buttons: the Shelly Wall Switch 1, 2 or 4. Then a Shelly module for the back box, such as a Shelly 1 or a Shelly Plus 2PM for two circuits.

One more thing worth checking before you order: the size of the back box in the wall. A double position needs a box wide enough to take two buttons side by side, and older boxes here are frequently single width. If the box is too small the job becomes a bricklaying job rather than an electrical one, and that is much better discovered with a screwdriver than with the parts already delivered. Take the existing plate off and measure before anything is ordered.
