This is the plate for a back box that feeds two things: the ceiling light and the wall lights, the room and the veranda, the fan and the lamp. Two buttons on the face, wired to a two channel Shelly behind them, and one plate on the wall doing what two plates used to. It is the commonest arrangement in a sitting room and the reason the two button version outsells the others.

It has no electronics of its own

Say this plainly because people order it expecting a smart switch. There is no radio, no processor and nothing to pair. It is a plate with two buttons and a set of holders that hook a Shelly module onto its back. The module does the switching, the app and the automation, and the module is a separate purchase. On its own the plate is inert.

Which module goes behind it

Something with two channels, or you are wasting a button. The Shelly 2.5 and the Shelly Plus 2PM both switch two circuits and both meter them, so the plate ends up controlling two loads and reporting what each one costs. A Shelly Plus i4 behind it instead turns the same two buttons into scene triggers rather than load switches.

Fitting

The holders clip the Shelly onto the back of the plate and the assembly drops into a standard European back box as one piece, leaving a clean face. It is 70 by 70 by 12 mm without the holder, comes in white and black, and is fitted by a licensed electrician because there is mains in the box even though the plate itself carries only 12 V DC or 18 V AC at 50 mA.

What to order with it

A two channel module: the Shelly 2.5 or the Shelly Plus 2PM, which also drives a roller shutter if the two buttons are going on a blind. For scenes rather than loads, the Shelly Plus i4.
