About this product

The CR123A battery is the cell behind most Z-Wave sensors. Three volts, lithium, also sold as 123A and CR17345. Photo lithium chemistry, which means it can hand over a lot of current in a hurry, then sit quietly for months. That is exactly the pattern a motion sensor or a smoke detector asks for.

Which of our products take a CR123A battery

More than any other cell we sell. The Fibaro Motion Sensor, the Fibaro Flood Sensor, the Fibaro Smoke Sensor, the Aeotec MultiSensor 7, the Danalock V3, our WiFi Siren and our WiFi Motion Sensor all run on one. If you have built anything on Z-Wave sensors, this is the battery your house eats.

Photo lithium is the right chemistry for a sensor

It can deliver a lot of current in a hurry and then sit doing almost nothing for months. That is exactly the pattern a motion sensor or a smoke detector asks of a battery: long silence, then a burst when it has to wake the radio and transmit. An alkaline cell of the same size would sag under that burst and go flat far sooner.

A ten year shelf life makes spares sensible

It holds 1430 mAh and keeps its charge in storage for up to ten years, so a spare bought today and left in a drawer will still be full when a sensor asks for it in three years. With sensors scattered around a house, having two or three in a drawer is the difference between a five minute fix and a fortnight of a dead sensor nobody replaces.

It copes with a roof space

The working temperature range is wide, which matters for a sensor in a roof void, a garage or an unshaded room. It contains no lead, no mercury and no cadmium, and it is 34.5 mm tall by 17 mm across.

Other names for the same cell

It is also sold as 123A and CR17345. If your device manual asks for either of those, this is the battery. Brand varies between deliveries; the specification does not.

Wikipedia keeps a list of battery sizes if you are trying to identify a cell from a device.

Questions

Which devices take this one?

Fibaro Motion, Flood and Smoke sensors, the Danalock V3, the Aeotec MultiSensor, and our Wi-Fi Siren and Wi-Fi Motion Sensor.

Is CR123A the same as 123A?

Yes. It is also sold as CR17345. All three names refer to this cell.

Will the brand be the one shown?

Usually. Stock moves and the brand can change between deliveries, but the size, voltage and chemistry are always the same.

How long will it last in a sensor?

That depends on how often the sensor triggers and reports. In a normal room, expect many months.

Can I keep a spare?

Yes. It holds its charge for up to ten years in storage.
