About this product

It is not a plug and not a wall module
The SONOFF BASIC is an in-line box. The cable feeding the appliance is cut and wired through it, which is a different job from plugging something in or fitting a module behind a switch.
That is why it suits a fixed appliance with its own flex: a water pump, a light in a store room, an extractor fan, a security lamp on a gable. Things that are wired rather than plugged, and that have no switch worth keeping.
Where the SONOFF BASIC is the right answer
A borehole or water pump that should run for an hour a day. A store room light nobody remembers to switch off. An extractor fan that should run after somebody uses the bathroom.
Timers, schedules, countdown and loop timers are all in the app, and the loop timer is the one people miss: on for ten minutes, off for fifty, repeating, which is exactly what a pump or a circulation fan wants.
Read this about where it can go
An electrician should wire it. The terminals are live at mains voltage and the box is not sealed.
So it belongs indoors, dry and out of reach. A module in a damp pump house or screwed to an outside wall is a fire risk, not a saving. Put it in the dry and run the flex out to whatever it controls.
What it does not do
No metering and no dimming. It switches, on a 10A rating at 90 to 250V.
It runs eWeLink with no hub and no subscription, and works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
When 10A is not enough
10A is a lighting and small appliance rating. A geyser, a large pump or a heater is above it, and undersizing a relay is how they fail.
For more current, or to switch on temperature rather than a clock, the SONOFF TH16 is the bigger module in the same range and takes a temperature probe. If the circuit already has a wall switch you want to keep, an in-wall module such as the SONOFF Mini is the tidier answer. SONOFF product listings are at sonoff.tech.

Questions
Is this a plug I can just use?
No. It has no pins and no socket. The cable feeding the appliance is cut and wired through it, which is why it suits fixed things like a pump, a store room light or an extractor fan rather than something you unplug.
Can it go outside on a wall?
No. There is no weather rating on it and the terminals are live at mains voltage. It belongs indoors, dry, and out of reach. If the load is outside, the module still goes inside.
What if I need more than 10 amps?
We stock a 16 amp SONOFF as well, which also takes a temperature and humidity probe. Tell us the load and we will point you at the right one.
Which app does it use?
eWeLink, SONOFF's own, which is not the app most of the rest of this shop uses. Alexa and Google still reach it, so a spoken command works across everything either way.
Anything else? Ask us on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight.
