About this product

The Shelly Pro 1PM does the same job as the in-wall modules, done properly in the distribution board. It clips onto DIN rail next to your breakers.

An electrician installs it.

Why a relay belongs in the board, not the back box

Two reasons. There is room and airflow on DIN rail, so a 16A load is not sitting in a sealed plaster box behind a switch getting hot.

And an electrician can see it, label it and work on it without opening walls. On a geyser, a borehole pump or a whole lighting circuit, that is where the switching belongs, and a module hidden behind a light switch is the wrong place for it.

The network socket is the Pro range advantage

A steel consumer unit is exactly where Wi-Fi struggles, and a relay that drops off the network every few days is worse than no relay at all.

The Shelly Pro 1PM has a wired ethernet socket, so it can be cabled rather than trusted to a radio signal through a metal door. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are there too if the cable is not practical.

Metering on the output

The circuit it controls reports voltage and current, so a geyser or a pump on this relay gives you watts now and kilowatt hours over time.

That is what makes it worth putting on the expensive circuits rather than the cheap ones. Knowing what the geyser costs, and being able to schedule it, is the pair of things that actually reduces a bill.

Your wall switches keep working

There are two input terminals, so existing switches carry on doing what they did. Nothing changes for anybody in the house who does not use an app.

Protection is built in: overheating, overvoltage and overcurrent, with an internal temperature sensor. It draws under 3W and is 94 x 19 x 69mm on the rail.

Shelly Pro 1PM ratings and the alternatives

Rated 16A, mains only at 110 to 240V AC. There is no DC supply option on this one, unlike the in-wall Plus modules.

For three circuits from one rail device, the Pro 3 gives three dry contacts but no metering. For four metered circuits and a screen on the front, that is the Pro 4PM. If the circuit is a single light and the back box has room, the in-wall Plus 1PM costs less. Shelly DIN rail products are at shelly.com.

Questions

Why put it in the board instead of behind the switch?

Room, airflow and access. A 16 A load in a sealed plaster box runs hot; on DIN rail it does not. And an electrician can label it and work on it without opening a wall.

What is the ethernet socket for?

A wired connection to your router, which matters because a metal consumer unit is one of the worst places in a house for Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth still work if running a cable is not practical.

How wide is it on the rail?

94 by 19 by 69 mm, so it takes one module of rail space. Have your electrician check the spare ways in the board before you buy.

Do my wall switches still work?

Yes. It has two input terminals, so the existing switches keep controlling the circuit and the app runs alongside them.
