About this product
The Shelly Plus i4 is a four-input controller designed to trigger smart scenes, automations, and routines across your network. It contains no relay, no internal switch, and no output terminals. It cannot directly switch on or turn off a physical light, pump, fan, or any other load. Instead, it monitors physical wall switches and sends digital commands over Wi-Fi to other devices.
How It Works
You wire up to four conventional switches or momentary pushbuttons to the input terminals. When a switch is flipped or a button is pressed, the Shelly Plus i4 detects the change and triggers predefined scenes, MQTT commands, HTTP webhooks, or actions on other connected smart modules. Because it supports multiple click combinations per input, a single four-gang wall plate can initiate up to 16 separate actions throughout a home or commercial building.
Wiring and Installation Requirements
The unit measures 37 x 42 x 16 mm and fits inside standard electrical wall boxes behind light switches or socket plates. It requires a mains power supply of 110 to 240 V AC at 50/60 Hz. Both a neutral wire and a live wire must be present inside the wall box. It accepts conductor sizes from 0.5 to 1.5 mm sq (20 to 16 AWG). Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician.
Connectivity and Platform Support
The controller connects directly to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) with Bluetooth 4.2 for pairing. It requires no hub to function and includes an embedded web server for local control independent of cloud services. It supports custom scripting, MQTT, and up to 20 webhooks. In Amazon Alexa, the device functions as a virtual routine trigger.

Can the Shelly Plus i4 directly switch on a light or a pump?
No. The Shelly Plus i4 has no relay and no output terminals. It cannot switch any electrical load. It detects switch inputs and sends Wi-Fi commands or webhooks to other smart devices.
Does the Shelly Plus i4 require a neutral wire?
Yes. The unit requires an AC mains connection of 110 to 240 V AC and must have both live and neutral wires wired to its power terminals.
What types of wall switches can be connected?
It accepts up to four conventional toggle switches, momentary pushbuttons, or a combination of both across terminals SW1 to SW4.
Does it require a dedicated smart home hub?
