About this product
The Shelly 2.5 puts two relays in one module, each with its own meter.
- Two circuits from one back box
- Or one motor instead of two lights
- Check the load: 10A per channel, 20A total
- No hub, no account, and it survives an outage
- Fitting the Shelly 2.5, and the current generation
Two circuits from one back box
The ceiling light and the wall lights. The veranda light and the security floodlight. Each switched on its own schedule and each metered separately.
On a two gang plate that means one module instead of two, and one set of wiring in a box that is probably already crowded. The two existing switches go on the two inputs and carry on working as they always did.
Or one motor instead of two lights
Put the Shelly 2.5 in roller shutter mode and the two relays become up and down for a curtain, a blind, a gate or a garage door.
The app remembers the position, so you can send it half open rather than only fully one way or the other. That is the same module doing a completely different job, and it is the reason people who bought one for lighting often end up buying a second for a gate.
Check the load: 10A per channel, 20A total
Two lighting circuits are comfortable. Two heavy loads are not.
A geyser on one channel and a pump on the other will breach the 20A total even though each sits inside the 10A per channel figure. If both loads are heavy, use two single modules on separate circuits rather than trying to make one device do it.
No hub, no account, and it survives an outage
It joins your Wi-Fi directly and keeps a local web interface, so schedules carry on when the internet does not.
Metering runs on both channels, so each of the two circuits reports its own consumption rather than giving you one combined figure. Overheating protection is built in, which matters on a two channel module in a sealed box.
Fitting the Shelly 2.5, and the current generation
36 x 39 x 17mm, wired on live, neutral and two loads, with the existing switches on the two inputs. An electrician fits it. Supply is 110 to 240V AC or 30 to 50V DC, and standby draw is under 1W.
If you are buying today rather than matching hardware already installed, the Shelly Plus 2PM is the current generation: Bluetooth setup, a faster processor, and obstacle detection in roller mode, which this one does not have. Shelly have moved on since this one, and the current range is at shelly.com.

Questions
Can it really run a gate or a garage door?
In roller shutter mode the two relays become open and close and the app tracks the position, so yes for a motor that expects that kind of control. Every gate motor is different, so tell us the make and model and we will check it with you before you buy.
Can I use both channels for heavy loads?
No. It is 10 A per channel but only 20 A across the two together, and both relays sit in one small module that has to shed heat. Two lighting circuits are what it is for.
Will it fit in my wall box?
It is 36 by 39 by 17 mm, and it is the deepest of the small Shellys once its wiring is in. On a two gang box it is usually fine. Have your electrician look before you buy.
Do my existing switches still work?
Yes, both of them, one per channel. Momentary and toggle are both supported, and in roller mode the two switches become up and down.
