An interior smart lock: a lever handle for an inside door, in black. The fingerprint reader is in the handle and the keypad is the glass strip along it. The round escutcheon with the cylinder mounts separately, which is what makes it a rose set: no long plate down the door, just a handle and a disc.

This is the lock for a bedroom, a study, a store room or a private office. It is slimmer and cheaper than the mortise locks because it is not trying to be a front door.

Four ways in: fingerprint, code, the Tuya app over Bluetooth and a mechanical key. IC cards can be ordered as an option. It holds 300 users and matches a fingerprint in 0.6 seconds. There is a normally open mode for the hours when a room is in constant use.

One thing to be clear about. This lock talks Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi. Your phone has to be near the door. If you want to send a code to somebody while you are out of the house, or see who opened the door while you were away, you need to add the Tuya Bluetooth Hub, which we sell separately. Without it the lock still works perfectly well by finger, code and key.

It fits interior doors 30 to 60 mm thick on a 5072 mortise, 22 x 235 mm, with 4085 and 5085 available to order. Grade C cylinder, zinc alloy body, four AAA cells and a micro USB port for a power bank. The same handle in gold is in stock too, and grey can be ordered.

The door this is built for

An interior smart lock is a different job from a front door lock, and the S604L is honest about it. It is slimmer and cheaper than the mortise locks because it is not trying to be a front door: a bedroom, a study, a store room or a private office is what it is for.

Fingerprint, code, the Tuya app over Bluetooth, and a mechanical key. IC cards can be ordered as an option if you want them. It holds 300 fingerprint and password users, matches a print in 0.6 seconds on a semiconductor sensor, and takes 6 to 8 digit codes on an 11-key touchscreen.

There is a normally open mode for the hours when a room is in constant use, so nobody is presenting a thumb every two minutes.

Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi

It talks Bluetooth. Your phone has to be near the door. To send a code to somebody while you are out, or to see who opened the door while you were away, add the Tuya Bluetooth Hub, which we sell separately.

Without it the lock still works perfectly well by finger, code and key. It is worth being clear about before you order rather than after.

Fitting an interior smart lock

It takes interior doors 30 to 60 mm thick on a 5072 mortise at 22 x 235 mm, with 4085 and 5085 available to order. The handle is 65 x 145 x 26 mm with a 55 mm cylinder escutcheon, in zinc alloy around a Grade C cylinder. The anti-lock function is only available with the double-tongue mortise.

Four AAA cells run it with a 5 V micro USB port for a power bank and a low voltage warning at 4.5 V. The same handle in gold is in stock and grey can be ordered.

An inside door, not a front door

Buy this for a bedroom, a study, a store room or a private office. It is slimmer and cheaper than the mortise locks because it is not pretending to be a front door, and putting one on your main entrance would be the wrong choice.
