Smart Lock - Mortise Lock with Handle (S811)

The QLeung S811 is a mortise fingerprint door lock with a lever handle, and it opens five ways: fingerprint, code, card, mechanical key and the Tuya app. The reader sits in the ring at the base of the handle, so the hand that already reaches for the door is the hand that opens it.

Five ways into the door

The semiconductor reader is built into the handle itself rather than into a separate pad, so opening the door is one movement. Prints are enrolled from the keypad or from the app, and each one can be named, which is what makes it possible to see later who came in and when.

The keypad accepts a virtual password. Type a long string of random digits with your real code buried somewhere inside it and the door still opens, so anyone watching over your shoulder learns nothing they can reuse. Cards work the same way as the code, and two mechanical keys are supplied for the cylinder.

Because this is a Wi-Fi fingerprint door lock rather than a Bluetooth one, the app reaches it from anywhere with a signal. A code can be sent to somebody standing at the door while you are across town, and a temporary code for a cleaner, a guest or a delivery expires on its own without you having to remember to remove it.

Will this fingerprint door lock fit your door?

The lock suits doors between 38 and 55 mm thick and takes the 5050 standard mortise body, which is the size most commonly already cut into a metal or timber door. QLeung also build the same lock around 6085, 5572 and 4585 mortise bodies, and around a single latch.

The escutcheon measures 65 x 260 mm, so it covers the plate area of a typical existing lock. Measure the thickness of your door and the mortise already cut into it before ordering, and send us those two numbers if you are not certain which body you need. Getting that right before the lock arrives saves a return.

Setting it up in the Tuya app

There is no hub to buy. The lock joins your Wi-Fi directly and appears in the Tuya or Smart Life app, the same app that runs most of the switches, plugs and sensors we sell, so it sits alongside them instead of needing a second account. Both apps are free from Tuya.

From the app you add and remove users, issue one-time or timed codes, and read the entry log. It handles the usual household arrangements: a permanent code for the family, a timed code for staff who come on certain days, and a one-time code for a delivery. Codes are cancelled in the app rather than at the keypad, so nobody has to stand at the door to change them.

Power, and what happens when the batteries go flat

Four AA cells run the lock for about a year of ordinary use, and it warns you in the app and at the keypad before they are exhausted. If it is left long enough to go flat, a micro USB port on the underside of the outside panel takes a power bank, which wakes it up long enough to let you in. The two mechanical keys are the other way back in.
