About this product

A smart lock with camera: a mortise handle with an HD lens above the keypad. Somebody stands at your door, and you see them. The camera also captures the face of anyone who tries a wrong code, so a failed attempt leaves a picture rather than just a log entry. It opens by fingerprint, code, card, mechanical key and the Tuya app. The reader is the ring at the base of the handle. The handle itself is a free handle: it turns without moving the latch until the lock has recognised you, so forcing it achieves nothing. The keypad takes a virtual password, any number of random digits with the real code buried inside, and the app issues codes remotely to a visitor already at the door.Inside there is an electronic anti-lock for the night and a horn that sounds on a pry attempt. Four AA cells power it, with a Type-C port underneath for emergency power.Made in black, silver and red bronze. Ask us which finish is on the shelf.

What the camera is actually for

An HD camera with LED lights sits above the keypad, so somebody standing at your door is somebody you can see. More usefully, it photographs anyone who enters a wrong code, which turns a failed attempt from a line in a log into a face you can recognise.

That is the difference between knowing something happened and knowing who did it, and it is the reason to choose this over the plain mortise handle lock.

The free handle

The handle turns without moving the latch until the lock has recognised you. Forcing it achieves nothing, because there is no mechanical connection to force until the motor makes one. It is a quiet piece of design and it removes the most obvious physical attack on a handle lock.

The fingerprint reader is the ring at the base of that handle, so the hand already reaching for the door is the hand that opens it.

Codes, users and the app

Five ways in: fingerprint, code, IC card, mechanical key and the Tuya app. The keypad accepts a virtual password up to 24 digits, so you bury the real code inside a longer string and a bystander learns nothing reusable.

Capacity is 10 administrators and 190 regular users across fingerprints, codes and cards. The app issues a code remotely to a visitor who is already standing at the door.

Fitting a smart lock with camera

It suits wooden and composite doors 38 to 55 mm thick, with a 65 x 260 mm escutcheon. Inside there is an electronic anti-lock for overnight and a horn that sounds on a pry attempt. Four AA cells run it, with a Type-C port underneath for emergency power.

Made in black, silver and red bronze. Ask us which finish is on the shelf before ordering a particular colour.

Worth it for the wrong-code photograph

Every lock keeps a log. This one keeps a face. If the reason you are shopping is that somebody has been trying your door, that is the feature to buy, and the plain S811 will not give it to you.

It suits wooden and composite doors 38 to 55 mm thick with a 65 x 260 mm plate. Say which finish you want, since black is what we photograph and silver and red bronze move in and out of stock. The rest are in smart locks, app at tuya.com.

Questions

What does the camera actually do?

It shows you who is at the door in the app, and it captures the face of anyone who gets the code wrong, so you have a picture rather than a note.

Which finishes can I get?

Black, silver and red bronze. Black is what we photograph. Ask us what is in stock before you order a particular finish.

Will it fit my door?

Wooden and composite doors from 38 to 55 mm thick. Measure the thickness and the existing mortise, and send us the numbers if you are unsure.

How many people can use it?

10 administrators and 190 regular users, counted across fingerprints, codes and cards.

What is a virtual password?

You type a long string of random digits with your real code somewhere inside it. The lock finds the code and opens, and anyone watching sees nothing useful.
