About this product
A retrofit. The Wyze smart lock replaces only the thumb turn on the inside of an existing deadbolt: the outside of the door, the keyhole and your keys stay exactly as they are. Fitting is a screwdriver and about fifteen minutes.
- A retrofit, not a replacement
- The gateway is not optional
- The two features that earn their keep
- Sharing a Wyze smart lock with the household
- Will it fit your deadbolt
The Wyze Gateway is in the box and it is not optional: the lock talks Zigbee to the gateway, the gateway plugs into a socket and carries it onto your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Reckon on about 15 metres from the gateway to both the lock and the router.
Two features earn their keep. Auto-unlock uses your phone's location to open the door as you walk up, so you arrive with shopping and the door is already open. And a built-in gyroscope tells the door apart from the bolt: most locks can only say the bolt is thrown, this one knows whether the door itself is shut, so it will not lock into thin air and it can tell you the door is standing open.
Sharing is per person, with a history of who came and went. It runs on four AA cells, included, for five to six months. Add the Wyze Lock Keypad if you want codes as well as phones.
A retrofit, not a replacement
The Wyze smart lock replaces only the thumb turn on the inside of an existing deadbolt. The outside of the door, the keyhole and every key already cut for it stay exactly as they are, which is why this suits a rented flat or a door whose outside furniture you like. Fitting is a screwdriver and about fifteen minutes.
It fits most single cylinder deadbolts, the kind with a keyhole on one side only.
The gateway is not optional
The Wyze Gateway is in the box and it is required. The lock talks Zigbee to the gateway, and the gateway plugs into a socket and carries it onto your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Reckon on about 15 metres from the gateway to the lock and to the router, so plan a socket roughly between the two.
The two features that earn their keep
Auto-unlock uses your phone location to open the door as you walk up, so you arrive with shopping and the door is already open.
The other is quieter and better. A built-in gyroscope tells the door apart from the bolt. Most locks can only report that the bolt is thrown; the Wyze smart lock knows whether the door itself is shut, so it will not lock into thin air and it can tell you the door is standing open.
Sharing a Wyze smart lock with the household
Access is shared per person, with a history of who came and went rather than a single anonymous log. Four AA cells are included and run it for five to six months.
The lock is opened by phone. If you want codes as well, add the Wyze Lock Keypad, which is a separate product and pairs to this same lock.
Will it fit your deadbolt
Send us a photograph of the inside of your door. This works on most single cylinder deadbolts, the sort with a keyhole on one side only, and the whole appeal is that the outside stays exactly as it is. Thirty seconds of looking now saves an argument later.
The gateway is in the box, so there is nothing else to buy unless you want codes as well, in which case add the keypad. Wyze document it at wyze.com. Rest of the range: smart locks.

Questions
Will it fit my door?
It fits most single cylinder deadbolts, meaning a deadbolt with a keyhole on the outside and a thumb turn on the inside. Only the thumb turn is replaced. If your door has a euro cylinder in the edge, or a lever handle lock, this is the wrong shape. Send us a photo of both sides of your lock on WhatsApp and we will tell you before you order.
Do I keep my keys?
Yes, and that is the point of a retrofit. Nothing changes on the outside of the door, so every key already cut still works and nobody needs to know the lock is smart.
What is the gateway for?
The lock talks Zigbee, not Wi-Fi. The gateway plugs into a socket, listens to the lock and carries it onto your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. It comes in the box and the lock needs it for anything remote. Allow about fifteen metres from the gateway to the lock and to the router.
What does the gyroscope do that other locks do not?
It tells the door apart from the bolt. Most locks only know whether the bolt is thrown, which means they will happily lock into an open doorway. This one knows whether the door itself is shut, so auto-lock behaves properly and the app can tell you the door is standing open.
Can somebody without the app get in?
Add the Wyze Lock Keypad, which we sell separately, and they can use a code. The keypad does not work on its own: it needs this lock.
Anything else? Ask us on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight.
