When the colour of the camera is the point

A white camera on a dark wall announces itself from the street. Sometimes that is exactly what you want and a visible camera does half the work. Other times you would rather it sat quietly under a dark eave or against a black gate frame and nobody gave it a second look.

That is the whole reason this version exists. Same hardware, same price, darker shell. Choose by the wall it is going on, not by anything technical.

What the Wyze Cam v4 black sees at 2.5K

The sensor records 2560 by 1440, which is where the money goes. At the ten to fifteen metres a gate camera usually works at, that is the gap between knowing a man came to the door and being able to say who he was.

Wide dynamic range handles the harder problem, which in Dar is hard sun behind an open doorway. Instead of a black silhouette against a blown out background, both ends of the frame stay readable.

Spotlights, siren and night behaviour

Two 72 lumen LEDs at 5,000K sit in the face of the camera. On a motion trigger at night they light the scene and the recording stays in colour rather than dropping to infrared grey. They can also run on a schedule, or stay off.

The 99dB siren is motion triggered or fired by hand from the app. Two way audio with echo cancellation means you can speak to whoever is standing there without it turning into feedback.

Cards, subscriptions and Wi-Fi bands

A microSD card up to 256GB, formatted exFAT, records to the camera around the clock with no subscription. Cam Plus is optional and only buys the person, package and vehicle labels on your alerts.

Check your Wi-Fi before ordering. The camera joins 2.4GHz networks only, with Wi-Fi 6 support on that band, and it cannot see a 5GHz network at all.

Black or white, and which Wyze to buy

Nothing separates the two v4 units except the shell. If the mounting spot is dark, or the camera sits against a dark frame or under a dark soffit, take the Wyze Cam v4 black. If it is going on a white wall inside, the white v4 disappears just as well.
