Wyze Cam V4

The Wyze Cam v4 is Wyze's current indoor and outdoor camera, and a real step up from the v3 it replaces. Sharper sensor, spotlights built into the face of it, a 99 dB siren, and the same microSD recording with nothing to pay every month.

It keeps the small square housing of the older models, so a shelf spot or a mount that held a v3 will hold this one. IP65 rated, and it ships with a magnetic base as well as screw fittings.

This is the white version. The same camera is also stocked in black.

Why the Wyze Cam v4 jump to 2.5K matters

1080p tells you a man walked up to your gate. 2.5K tells you which man. The extra pixels land where you need them, which is the middle of the frame at ten or fifteen metres, and that is the range most compound cameras are actually working at.

Wide dynamic range does the other half of the job. A doorway with hard sun behind it normally comes out as a black silhouette. WDR exposes the bright and dark parts separately and hands you a frame where both are readable.

Spotlights instead of infrared grey

Two 72 lumen LEDs sit in the front of the housing. When motion triggers at night they come on, and the camera records in colour rather than dropping to infrared. You can leave them on a schedule, trigger them on motion, or turn them off entirely.

Below the spotlights there is still the starlight sensor holding colour in dim light, and infrared underneath that for total darkness. Three layers, and the camera picks between them on its own.

Siren, audio and what the app can do live

A 99dB siren is built in and can be set to fire on motion or triggered by hand from the app. Two way audio has noise and echo cancellation, so a conversation through it is actually intelligible rather than a wall of hiss.

Setup runs over Bluetooth 5.2 instead of holding a QR code up to the lens, which is a small thing until you have done it in the dark on a ladder.

Storage, Wi-Fi and the one limitation to check

microSD up to 256GB in exFAT, recording around the clock, no subscription. Cam Plus is optional and only adds the person, package and vehicle labels.

The limitation worth checking before you buy: this camera is 2.4GHz only. It supports Wi-Fi 6 on that band, but it will not see a 5GHz network. If your router broadcasts a single combined name, split the bands or make sure the 2.4GHz one is visible during setup.

v4 or v3, and white or black

Take the v4 if the camera is doing identification work: a gate, a shop entrance, a till, anywhere you might need to hand footage to someone. The 2.5K sensor and the spotlights are the whole reason to spend more.
