About this product
The Wyze Cam Pan v3 is a motorised camera at a price that usually buys a fixed one. One unit covers a whole room instead of one corner of it, keeps colour after dark, and records to a microSD card with no subscription attached.
- What the 360 degree pan and tilt actually covers
- Colour at night, not black and white
- Powering the Wyze Cam Pan v3 and where to mount it
- Detection, storage and what needs a paid plan
- Who this camera suits, and who it does not
It records 1080p through a starlight sensor, which is the part that matters after dark: instead of switching to infrared grey, it holds colour in very low light. Infrared is still there for full darkness. Two-way audio with noise and echo cancellation lets you speak through it clearly.
Recordings go to a microSD card in the camera, up to 256 GB, and card recording works with no subscription. It is rated IP65, so it can go outside as well as in, though it needs mains power and stays plugged in.
Worth knowing: this model has no siren, and the person, vehicle and pet detection features need a paid Cam Plus plan. Motion and sound notifications work without one.
What the 360 degree pan and tilt actually covers
The head turns a full 360 degrees horizontally and 180 degrees vertically, so one unit on a ceiling or a shelf watches a whole room instead of one corner of it. The lens itself sees 120 degrees at a time, and the motor fills in the rest.
Motion tracking is the part people buy it for. When something moves through the frame the camera follows it until it leaves, rather than watching the doorway it walked out of. You can also save fixed waypoints and have it cycle between them.
Colour at night, not black and white
The starlight sensor is what separates the Pan v3 from the cheaper outdoor Wyze cameras. In low light it keeps colour, so a red shirt still reads as red at 9pm on a lit veranda. In total darkness it falls back to infrared like any other camera.
Colour footage is worth more than sharpness when you are trying to describe someone to a fundi or to the police.
Powering the Wyze Cam Pan v3 and where to mount it
The Wyze Cam Pan v3 runs on mains power, not a battery, so it needs a socket within reach of the supplied cable. In exchange it records continuously rather than only on movement, and it never needs charging.
The body is IP65 rated, so it survives being mounted under an eave or on a covered veranda through the rains. Indoors it is the easier install: shelf, plug, done.
Detection, storage and what needs a paid plan
A microSD card up to 256GB goes in the base and records locally with no subscription. That covers the footage itself.
Person, vehicle and pet detection are a different matter. Those run on Wyze Cam Plus, which is a paid plan. Without it you still get motion alerts, you just do not get the camera telling you which kind of motion it was.
Who this camera suits, and who it does not
Good fit for a sitting room, a shop floor, a reception or a covered veranda where there is a plug and where one fixed angle is not enough. The pan and tilt earns its keep in a wide room.
Skip it if the spot has no power, or if you need a siren built in, because this model has neither a battery nor a siren. For a wall with no socket, the Wyze Cam Outdoor starter bundle is the one to look at. Manufacturer detail is on the Wyze Cam Pan v3 page.

Questions
Does it follow people on its own?
Yes. It has automatic motion tracking, so when it detects movement the head turns to keep the subject in frame. You can also drive it manually from the app through a full 360 degrees of pan and 180 degrees of tilt.
Does it see in colour at night?
Yes, in low light. The starlight sensor holds colour where an ordinary camera would drop to infrared grey. In complete darkness it still switches to infrared black and white.
Do I need a subscription?
Not for the basics. Live view, motion and sound notifications, and continuous or event recording to a microSD card all work with no subscription. The person, vehicle, pet and package detection features need a paid Cam Plus plan.
Is a memory card included, and does it have a siren?
No card is included; it takes up to 256 GB. And no, this model has no siren, unlike the Wyze Cam v4.
Can it go outside, and does it need a socket?
It is rated IP65 so it can be mounted outdoors, but it is mains powered and has to stay plugged in. It also connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only.
