About this product
The SoloCam E40 is the simplest way into eufy's wire-free outdoor range. The SoloCam E40 has no cables to run and no base station to buy: it mounts wherever you point it, joins your Wi-Fi directly, and runs about four months on a charge.
- Nothing to run, nothing to buy alongside
- What it records
- Storage that cannot be expanded
- Two places the SoloCam E40 shows it is the entry model
- Adding solar later
- Where it sits in the range
It records 2K across a 135° view with 8× digital zoom. On-device AI picks out people rather than every moving leaf, so notifications mean something, and a 90 dB siren is there if you want to make a point. Two-way audio lets you speak to whoever is at the gate.
Footage is kept on 8 GB of storage inside the camera. There is no subscription and nothing else to buy, but it is worth knowing that this storage is fixed: there is no card slot and it cannot be expanded.
Choosing between this and the others: the E40 is the entry model and it shows in two places. It has no spotlight, so night footage is infrared black and white rather than colour, and it is rated IP65 rather than the IP67 of its siblings. It can be paired with eufy's separate solar panel accessory if you would rather not recharge it by hand.
Nothing to run, nothing to buy alongside
The SoloCam E40 is the simplest way into eufy wire-free outdoor range. No cables to run, no base station, no drilling to reach power. It mounts where you point it, joins your Wi-Fi directly, and runs about four months on a charge.
What it records
2K across a 135 degree view with 8x digital zoom. On-device AI picks out people rather than every moving leaf, so a notification is worth looking at. A 90 dB siren is there if you want to do more than watch, and two-way audio lets you speak to whoever is at the gate.
Storage that cannot be expanded
Footage sits on 8 GB inside the camera, encrypted. No subscription and nothing else to buy, which is the good half.
The other half is that this storage is fixed. There is no card slot and no way to add to it, so the camera keeps the most recent clips and writes over the older ones. If you need weeks of history rather than days, one of the HomeBase models is the honest answer.
Two places the SoloCam E40 shows it is the entry model
It has no spotlight, so night footage is infrared black and white rather than colour. The L40 and S220 both light the scene and record it in colour.
And it is rated IP65 rather than the IP67 of its siblings. Both are fine outdoors under an eave; IP67 is the one to want if it will sit fully exposed to driving rain.
Adding solar later
There is no panel built in, but it does pair with the separate eufy solar panel accessory, which is the cheapest route to a camera you never touch again. Ask us and we will quote the two together.
Where it sits in the range
The E40 is the cheapest and simplest. Spend more and the L40 adds a 600 lumen spotlight and colour night vision; the S220 adds solar. eufy list this as the T8131 at eufy.com.

Questions
Does it have a spotlight?
No. The E40 is the one model in this range without one, so night footage is infrared black and white rather than colour. If you want colour at night, look at the SoloCam L40 or the S40.
Do I need a memory card or a HomeBase?
Neither. The camera has 8 GB of storage built in and records to itself. Be aware that this storage is fixed: there is no card slot and it cannot be expanded later.
How long does a charge last, and can I add solar?
About four months of normal use. There is no solar panel built in, but this model does work with eufy's separate solar panel accessory if you would rather not take it down to recharge.
Can it stay outside?
Yes. It is rated IP65 against dust and water jets and specified from minus 20 to plus 50 degrees Celsius. Note that its siblings are rated IP67, which is the higher rating.
Will it work on 5GHz Wi-Fi?
No. It connects to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only.
