The Smarter iKettle boils to a temperature
The Smarter iKettle holds anywhere from 20 to 100 degrees, set in one degree steps.
That is the difference between green tea that tastes like green tea and green tea scalded at 100. Black tea wants the full boil, green wants about 80, and a coffee pour-over wants somewhere around 92. An ordinary kettle gives you one of those three.
Three modes that do something
Wake Up starts the kettle to an alarm, so it is boiled by the time you reach the kitchen.
Home starts it when your phone arrives on the house Wi-Fi, which means it is boiling as you come through the gate rather than after you have put the shopping down.
Formula boils and then holds at the temperature a baby bottle needs. That is the mode that earns the kettle its keep at three in the morning, and the one people talk about a year later.
Keep warm, and knowing when it is empty
Keep warm holds the temperature you chose rather than letting it slide back down, so a pot made twenty minutes later is made with water at the right temperature.
The kettle senses the water level and shows it in the app. Knowing from another room whether it needs filling sounds trivial until you have walked to the kitchen to start it and found it empty.
Power, size and what it needs
1.8 litres and 3000W at 220 to 240V, which is a full-size kettle rather than a compromise made to be clever. It stands 274mm tall on a 210 by 154mm base.
It joins 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and runs the Smarter app, with Amazon Alexa, Google Nest Home and Siri Shortcuts. There is no subscription.
The kettle or the other kettle
Take the Smarter iKettle for the widest temperature range, the phone-arrives-home trigger and the Formula mode.
Take the WeeKett instead if you want presets on the base itself so anybody can use it without the app, and if you would rather it lived in the Smart Life app alongside the rest of your Tuya kit. The matching coffee machine here is the Smarter Coffee, and the two sit in the same app. Smarter publish both at smarter.am.

Why would I want a temperature other than boiling?
Because most tea is ruined at 100. Green tea wants about 80, white tea lower still, and coffee poured over grounds is better just off the boil. This kettle holds whatever you set, in one degree steps.
What is Home mode?
The kettle notices your phone rejoining the house Wi-Fi and starts boiling, so it is ready as you walk in. Wake Up does the same thing to an alarm.
What is Formula mode?
It boils the water, then brings it down and holds it at the temperature a baby bottle needs. At three in the morning that is the difference between waiting and not waiting.
Can I still use it as a normal kettle?
Yes. The button on the base boils it like any other kettle. The app adds temperature control, schedules and the modes.
Does it tell me if it is empty?
Yes. It senses the water level and shows it in the app, so you know before you set it going from another room.
