The Smarter Coffee machine grinds as it brews
Whole beans go in the hopper on top and the Smarter Coffee machine grinds them the moment it brews.
That is the single biggest change you can make to coffee at home, and it is a bigger difference than the water, the filter or the machine itself. Ground coffee starts losing what makes it taste like coffee within minutes; grinding at the moment of brewing keeps it. It takes pre-ground too, in filter mode, if you would rather.
Why put a coffee machine on Wi-Fi
For the schedule. It can start grinding before you are out of bed, so the coffee is made rather than started when you reach the kitchen.
And for starting it from another room, which sounds lazy until the alternative is standing in the kitchen at six in the morning waiting for it. Strength and cup count are set on the machine or from the phone, and Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant work once it is set up.
It still works when the internet does not
The LCD and buttons on the front are not dependent on the app. If the line is down, or the router is off, or you simply do not want to find a phone, the machine does everything on its own panel.
That is worth checking on any connected appliance and it is not always true. A coffee machine that will not brew because a server is unreachable is a bad coffee machine.
Capacity and the filter
1.5 litres into a glass carafe, up to 12 cups, which covers a household or a small office.
The filter is permanent and washable. There are no paper filters to buy, run out of, or fail to find locally, which in Dar is a real consideration rather than an eco footnote.
Practical notes
It draws 900 to 1050W and measures 424 x 206 x 266mm, weighing about 6.85kg, so it needs proper counter space rather than a corner.
It joins 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, which is worth knowing if your router publishes both bands under one name. The matching kettle is the Smarter iKettle and the two sit in the same app. Smarter publish both at smarter.am.

Questions
Does it grind the beans itself?
Yes, in the hopper on top, at the moment it brews. That is the whole point of it. There is also a filter mode for pre-ground coffee if you have a bag open.
Do I need paper filters?
No. The filter is permanent and washable, so there is nothing to buy and nothing to run out of at six in the morning.
What happens if the internet is down?
You still get coffee. The LCD and buttons on the front run the machine on their own. Wi-Fi is for starting it from your phone, for schedules and for voice.
How much does it make?
Up to twelve cups, 1.5 litres, into a glass carafe. Cup count and strength are set on the machine or in the app.
Will it work with Alexa or Google?
Both, once it is set up in the Smarter app. There is no subscription.
