About this product

The SwitchBot Bot button pusher is a small robot thumb that sticks next to a button and presses it for you.

What the SwitchBot Bot button pusher is for

Every house has appliances that will never be smart. The coffee machine with a mechanical button. The geyser isolator on the wall. The gate intercom. A computer power button. A light switch you cannot rewire because you rent.

This sticks beside the button and presses it on command. That is the whole idea, and it is the only honest answer for hardware that has no app, no radio and no intention of getting either.

Nothing is opened, wired or drilled

It goes on with the adhesive pad supplied and comes off again without a mark.

That is what makes it work in a rented house, and on an appliance still under warranty where opening the case would end the cover. It is 43 x 37 x 24mm and about 42g, so it sits beside most buttons without covering anything else.

Press mode and switch mode

Press mode gives a single tap, for a button that does one thing when pushed.

Switch mode uses the small add-on arm so it can pull as well as push, which is what a rocker switch needs to go off and back on again. Check which of the two your target needs before ordering, because the arm is the difference between the Bot working on your wall switch and only being able to push it one way.

What it does without a hub, and what it does not

Bluetooth reaches up to 80 metres in the open, and the app holds up to ten schedules that run locally on the Bot itself.

So in the same house, on a schedule, it works with nothing else bought. For control from outside the house, or by voice through Alexa or Google, it needs a hub. We sell the SwitchBot Hub Plus, which also blasts infrared at your air conditioner while it is there.

Force, battery and one figure published twice

A single CR2 battery is rated at up to 600 days and is replaceable, so this is not a device you charge.

It pushes with up to 8N. SwitchBot publish 1.15 kgf of torque while a third-party manual publishes 1.0 kgf, and we record both rather than choosing. Either way it is a light press: it will operate a button or a rocker, not a stiff industrial switch. If you need more force or a wider set of arms for awkward buttons, the Fingerbot with hub is the alternative. SwitchBot publish the product at switch-bot.com.

Questions

What can it actually press?

Anything you press with a fingertip: a coffee machine, a kettle base, a computer's power button, an intercom, a doorbell, a rocker light switch. If it needs a firm grip or a twist, this is not the tool.

Do I need a hub?

Not to use it in the room. Bluetooth reaches up to 80 metres in the open and it holds up to ten schedules on its own. You need a SwitchBot Hub Plus for control from outside the house and for Alexa or Google, and we sell one.

Will it damage the wall or the appliance?

No. It goes on with an adhesive pad and lifts off again. Nothing is opened and nothing is wired, which is what makes it usable in a rented house.

How long does the battery last?

SwitchBot rate one CR2 cell at up to 600 days at twice a day. It is a standard camera battery and it takes a few seconds to change.

What is switch mode?

With the small add-on arm stuck to the other half of a rocker switch, the bot can pull as well as push, so it turns the switch both ways instead of only pressing one side.

Anything else? Ask us on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight.
