About this product

The Shelly RGBW2 turns a plain LED strip into a smart one, across four channels.

Read this first: it is low voltage, not mains

The Shelly RGBW2 runs on 12V or 24V DC and needs a power supply of the right voltage for your strip. That supply is not included.

It does not go on 240V and it is not a wall switch module. If you were looking for something to put behind a light switch, this is the wrong product and you want a Shelly Dimmer or a Shelly 1.

Shelly RGBW2 four channels, used two different ways

Run it as one RGBW strip, with colour plus a separate white channel. Or run it as four independent single colour strips, each dimmed on its own.

The second mode is the underrated one. Four separate white runs in one room, a cove, an under-counter run, a shelf and a plinth, all controlled from one box in the ceiling void rather than four controllers in four places.

Work out the power budget before you order

This matters more than the channel count. Shelly publish 144W total at 12V and 288W at 24V, and 45W or 90W per channel, with 12A maximum current.

Multiply your strip length by its watts per metre and check it against those figures. A 5 metre run at 14.4W per metre is 72W, which is comfortable; two such runs on one channel is not. Tell us the strip and the length and we will do the sum with you.

What you get for putting it in

A cove or under-counter run you already have, now on a schedule. A strip that comes on at sunset without anybody thinking about it. Colour and effects on a plain strip that had none.

It also measures the power it is passing, which is unusual on a strip controller and useful when you are checking a run against the budget above.

Setup and independence

43 x 38 x 14mm, joining your Wi-Fi directly with no hub and no account. It keeps a local web interface and API, so effects and schedules keep running when the internet is down.

Questions

Does it plug into the wall?

No. It runs on 12 or 24 volts DC and needs a power supply to match the strip, which is not in the box. Tell us the strip and we will quote the right supply with it.

How long a strip will it drive?

Work it out in watts, not metres. Multiply the strip's watts per metre by the length and keep it under 144 W on 12 V or 288 W on 24 V. A 5 metre strip at 14 W per metre is 70 W, which is comfortable.

Will it do a gradient or chase along the strip?

No. This controls the whole run as one, or four runs as four. A strip that changes colour along its length needs addressable LEDs and a different controller, so tell us if that is what you are after.

Can I use it for four separate white strips?

Yes, and that is the underrated use. Four single colour runs, each dimmed on its own, out of one box behind one supply.
