A U-lock for a bicycle or a motorbike that opens on your fingerprint. Nothing in your pocket, nothing to lose halfway through a ride, and nothing to hand over when somebody else takes the bike out.

The battery is built in and charges over USB, so there are no cells to replace. It opens on your thumb, or from the Tuya app over Bluetooth when your phone is near it, and the app keeps an access log so you can see when the lock was last opened and by which enrolled finger.

There is also a normally open mode: leave it unlocked so the shackle can be shut and opened freely without a fingerprint, which is what you want while you are working on the bike or moving it around a yard.

It is Bluetooth. For managing users and reading the log while you are away from the lock, add the Tuya Bluetooth Hub, which we sell separately. Around a bike that is out on the road, the phone at the lock is what you will actually use.

The point of a fingerprint bike lock is what you stop carrying. No key in a pocket to lose halfway through a ride, no combination to remember, and nothing to hand over when somebody else takes the bike out. Your thumb opens it, and enrolling a second person takes a minute.

There is no keyhole at all, which also means there is nothing to pick. The battery is built into the body and charges over USB, so there are no cells to replace and nothing to corrode in the rain.

The app, and the log

It pairs to the Tuya or Smart Life app over Bluetooth when your phone is beside it. The app keeps an access record, so you can see when the lock was last opened and which enrolled finger did it, which is more useful than it sounds on a bike several people share.

There is also a normally open mode. Leave it on and the shackle shuts and opens freely without a fingerprint, which is what you want while you are working on the bike or shifting it around a yard, and you turn it off again when the bike goes back on the street.

What to know before ordering

It is a Bluetooth lock, so managing users and reading the log happens with your phone near the lock. Add the Tuya Bluetooth Hub, which we sell separately, if you want to do that from home while the bike is elsewhere. In practice, out on the road, the phone at the lock is what you will use.

Two figures we will not guess at: the fingerprint capacity and the exact shackle dimensions are not published for this unit, and the weather rating is not either. Ask us and we will measure and check the one on the shelf before you order.

The gap has to clear your frame and whatever you are locking it to, and the shackle dimensions are not published for this unit. Tell us the frame diameter or send a photograph and we will put a tape over the one in stock before you order.
