What an Echo Show 5 stand fixes
The angle. A Show 5 is short, so on a bedside table or a kitchen counter it ends up aimed at your chest or, from a bed, at the ceiling. You then either lean over it or squint at it. This stand tilts it forward or backward so the screen faces where a person actually is, which on a device bought to be glanced at is not a refinement, it is the point.
The camera is the half people forget
The lens points wherever the screen points. A Show 5 lying flat films the underside of your chin during a video call, which is nobody preferred angle. Tilt it up and the call frames your face. If the Show is used for calling family rather than only for the time and the weather, that alone justifies the stand.
Magnetic, so it is not a commitment
The Show 5 drops onto it and holds magnetically. No clips, no tools, no adhesive and nothing to unscrew. Lift it off to carry it to another room and put it back one handed. The angle you set by hand stays where you leave it.
Where it makes the most difference
A bedside table, because you are looking down at it. A kitchen counter, because you are looking across it. A desk, because you are close and slightly above. Anywhere the Show sits below eye level, which is almost everywhere a Show 5 goes.
What it fits
The Echo Show 5 in black and the Echo Show 5 in white. The Show itself is not included.
The stand changes nothing about what the Show 5 does. Same screen, same camera, same speaker, same everything in the app. What it changes is whether the device is comfortable to use from where you actually are, which on a small screen at bedside height is most of the experience. It is the cheapest improvement you can make to a Show 5.
For the larger screen there is a matching Echo Show 8 stand. If a camera in a bedroom is the concern rather than the angle, the Echo Spot has no camera at all. Wikipedia keeps the Echo Show range history.
