The kitchen counter case for an Echo Show 8 stand

An 8 inch screen on a counter is a recipe you read while your hands are busy, and you are reading it from a step or two back with a knife in one hand. Flat on the worktop it points at your waist and you end up leaning in over it, which is the one thing you cannot do while cooking. Tilted back, it is readable from where you are standing, which is the whole reason the screen is that size.

The Show 8 is bigger and heavier than the Show 5, and a counter gets knocked, wiped and leaned on. The stand gives it a wider, more deliberate footing and a set angle rather than the shallow fixed tilt of the device itself. It also lifts the screen slightly clear of whatever gets spilled on the worktop.

Camera framing for calls

The 13 megapixel camera looks wherever the screen looks. On a counter, a call from a flat Show 8 shows the ceiling and the top of your head. Angled up, it frames a person standing at the counter properly, which is where most kitchen video calls actually happen.

Magnetic and reversible

The Show 8 drops on and holds magnetically. No clips, no tools, no adhesive and nothing that leaves a mark. Lift it off to move it to another room, and put it back one handed. The angle you set stays set.

The stand does not change what the Show 8 can do. Everything on the device is the same: the screen, the camera, the speakers, the hub radios in the 2024 model. What changes is whether you can comfortably read and be seen from where you actually stand, which on a device that lives on a counter is most of the value it has.

One practical note on placement. Because the stand tilts the screen back, the Show 8 takes up slightly more depth on the counter than it does sitting flat. On a shallow worktop behind a sink or against a tiled splashback, measure before you commit, and remember the device also needs its power lead to come out of the back without being crushed against the wall.
