About this product
The Aeotec Nano Dimmer is a dimmer the size of a matchbox that hides behind the switch you already have. The wall switch keeps working and gains a long press to ramp the brightness; the app, schedules and scenes run alongside it.

Read this first: it is Z-Wave, not Wi-Fi. It needs a Z-Wave controller, which is not included. We sell three that run it: the Fibaro Home Center Lite, the Fibaro Home Center 2 and the Homey Pro.

What the Aeotec Nano Dimmer needs from your wiring
It runs two wire or three wire, so an older switch box with no neutral in it is not a dead end. Where the neutral is present the three wire arrangement is the better one, and it is also the only one that will drive a motor load. Your electrician will know which of the two he is looking at the moment the plate is off the wall.
Minimum load is the figure that catches people
Maximum load is 276 W at 230 V, which is generous for lighting and rarely the problem. The number that bites is the minimum. Wired two wire the module has no neutral to feed from, so it draws a trickle through the lamp to keep itself alive, and Aeotec put the minimum at 20 W. Two LED lamps will not reach 20 W between them. Under the minimum you get flicker, a faint glow when the light is off, or a lamp that will not start at the bottom of the range. The bypass is the fix and we stock it.
The bulbs have to say dimmable
An ordinary LED lamp on any dimmer flickers, buzzes or steps rather than fading, and no module corrects that. Look for the word dimmable on the lamp box before you buy the lamps, not after. This is the single commonest reason a dimmer is blamed for a problem that belongs to the bulb.
Motor loads, and the controller
Wired three wire it will take a motor load up to 100 W, which covers most ceiling fans but not all of them, so check the fan plate. And it is Z-Wave, not Wi-Fi. A controller is required and is not included; the wall switch keeps working either way, with a long press to ramp the brightness.
Before you order
Tell us the lamp wattage on the circuit and whether there is a neutral in the switch box. Those two answers decide whether you need the bypass with it, and it is far easier to fit both at once than to go back up the ladder afterwards.
The Aeotec bypass is the part that clears LED flicker on a two wire fit. If the circuit only needs on and off, the Aeotec Nano Switch is the cheaper module. Aeotec own documentation is at aeotec.com.

Questions
Do I need the bypass?
If the lighting on that circuit adds up to less than about 20 watts and there is no neutral, yes. Two LED lamps will not get you there. The symptoms without one are flicker, a faint glow when the light is off, or a lamp that refuses to start. We stock the Aeotec bypass, so tell us the lamps and we will say.
Will it dim the bulbs I already have?
Only if they are marked dimmable. An ordinary LED on any dimmer flickers, buzzes or will not go low, and that is the bulb rather than the module. Send us a photograph of the bulb and we will tell you.
Do I need anything else?
A Z-Wave controller. This is not a Wi-Fi module and it will not pair with a phone by itself. The Fibaro Home Center Lite, the Fibaro Home Center 2 and the Homey Pro all run it and we stock all three.
Can it run a fan?
Only wired three wire, and only up to 100 watts. Below that it is fine on a small motor; above it, it is the wrong module and we will point you at a relay instead.
