A Shelly wall frame single is the finishing part

It holds one Shelly Wall Switch button square in the wall box and gives it a clean edge, with a matching plate in the same colour. This is the difference between a switch that looks fitted and a button sitting in a rough hole. It does nothing electrical whatsoever, and it is the part that decides whether the wall looks finished.

Where a single is right

Any position with one button on the face. A bedroom light, a passage, a bathroom, an outside lamp. Note the count is of buttons, not of circuits: a Shelly Wall Switch 4 is one button assembly with four keys on it, not four separate buttons, so read the switch you are buying rather than counting the lights in the room.

The three parts of a finished Shelly switch

Worth setting out, because people order one and expect a working switch. First the Shelly module, which goes in the back box and does the switching and the app. Second the Shelly Wall Switch button, which is what you press. Third this frame, which holds it and finishes the face. Each is a separate purchase and none of them works alone.

Black

The frame plate comes in the same black finish, so the assembly is one colour rather than two. On a dark wall or a considered interior that reads better than a white plate; in a plain white room the white version is the one to take.

What to order with it

The button itself: the Shelly Wall Switch 1. And a module for the back box, such as the Shelly 1, the Shelly 1PM if you want metering, or the Shelly 1L where there is no neutral in the box.

If you are fitting several of these through a house, order the frames at the same time as the buttons and the modules. They are small parts and they ship together; discovering afterwards that you are one frame short means one switch position sitting unfinished with a hole in the wall until the next delivery, which is the sort of thing that stops a project for a fortnight.
