About this product
A SONOFF ceiling fan controller is built for one job the other modules on this page do badly: a ceiling fan and its light, on one device, with fan speeds.
- Fan speeds, which an ordinary relay cannot do
- The radio remote is the underrated part
- Where it fits, and why that is the part to plan
- Which fans the SONOFF ceiling fan controller suits
- What it will not do
Fan speeds, which an ordinary relay cannot do
Put a plain relay on a ceiling fan and you get on and off. That is all it can do, because it is a switch.
A SONOFF ceiling fan controller gives the light as its own channel and the fan at three speeds, from the app, by voice, on a schedule, or from the remote. In a Dar bedroom where the fan runs most of the night, being able to drop it to speed one at two in the morning without getting up is the entire point.
The radio remote is the underrated part
A remote comes with it, and it is radio rather than infrared.
So it does not need line of sight, it works from the bed with the sheet over it, and it keeps working when the internet is down. It can also be screwed to a wall where there is no wiring at all, which is the cheapest way to add a fan control to a room that never had one. No chasing walls, no electrician for that part.
Where it fits, and why that is the part to plan
It goes in the fan canopy or the ceiling rose, not in a wall box, and an electrician wires it.
That is a small space with a hot motor next to it. Check there is room in the canopy before ordering, and tell the electrician what they are fitting so they bring the right tools up the ladder rather than discovering it at the top.
Which fans the SONOFF ceiling fan controller suits
AC ceiling fans with a capacitor speed circuit, which is what nearly every ordinary ceiling fan sold here uses.
Modern DC fans with their own electronic controller are a different thing and this is not for them. If your fan came with its own remote and a receiver in the canopy, ask us before ordering.
What it will not do
The light is on and off only. There is no dimming on this controller, so a dimmable lamp in the fan will not dim through it.
It runs eWeLink with no hub and no subscription, and works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. If the room has a separate light circuit you also want controlled, that is a job for a second module such as the SONOFF Mini behind the wall switch. SONOFF own site is sonoff.tech.

Questions
Will it work with my ceiling fan?
It is made for ordinary AC ceiling fans with a capacitor speed circuit, which is most of what is sold here. A DC fan with its own electronic controller is a different animal. Send us a photograph of the fan and its existing controller and we will tell you before you buy.
Where does it go?
Inside the fan canopy or the ceiling rose, not in a wall box. Space up there is tight and the motor runs warm, so this is a job for an electrician who can see what they are working with.
Does the remote need the internet?
No. The remote talks to the module by radio, so speeds and the light keep working when the network is down. The app is what adds schedules, voice and control from outside the house.
Can it dim the light?
No. The light channel is on and off. The three speeds apply to the fan.
