Wyze Cam Outdoor Add-on Camera

Read this first: this is an add-on camera and there is no base station in the box. The Wyze Cam Outdoor add-on camera does not join your Wi-Fi directly. It links to a Wyze Base Station, which is what connects to your router and holds the recordings. Without one already in the house this camera cannot be set up, and you want the Starter Bundle instead.

If you already have a Base Station, this is how you add another view. One base station runs up to four cameras.

The camera itself is fully wire-free and weather rated to IP65. It records 1080p, wakes on a PIR sensor that reacts to body heat rather than movement alone, and gets roughly three to six months from a charge depending on how much traffic it sees. Two-way audio and a built-in siren are there when you need them.

One thing to note. There is no colour night vision on this model. Once the light goes it switches to infrared and the picture comes back black and white.

Why the add-on camera will not work on its own

There is no base station in this box. The Wyze Cam Outdoor add-on camera is the camera only, and the camera does not join your Wi-Fi directly. It pairs to a WVODB1 Base Station, and without one it will not connect to anything.

So this is the right product if you already have the starter bundle at home and want a second or third angle covered. Starting from zero, buy the starter bundle instead and come back here for camera two.

Four. That is the ceiling per base, so a single starter bundle plus three of these covers a gate, a back door, a yard and a parking slot with no more indoor hardware.

Each camera keeps its own battery and its own schedule. Adding one does not shorten the life of the others, and each shows as a separate feed in the Wyze app.

What the camera itself does

Identical hardware to the one in the bundle. 1080p, 110 degree view, IP65 against rain and dust, PIR motion sensing, and three to six months per charge depending on how busy the view is. Night vision is infrared, so the picture goes black and white after dark.

Clips are triggered by movement rather than recorded continuously, which is the trade that makes the battery last.

Where a second outdoor camera earns its place

Most compounds get one camera on the gate and then find the blind spot: the side path, the generator, the back door nobody watches. That is the job this one is for, and it takes about five minutes to add in the app.
