About this product
A smart water valve actuator is not a valve. It is a motor that turns the valve you already have, and everything that follows from that is set out below.

A smart water valve actuator is not a valve
A smart water valve actuator is a motor that turns the valve you already have. It clamps onto the pipe, an arm grips the existing lever, and the motor swings it through ninety degrees.
That design is the whole reason to buy one. No plumber, no cutting into the line, no draining the system, and no water off while it goes on. It is an afternoon with a spanner and an adjustable clamp.
Check your valve before you order
It fits quarter turn lever valves: the ordinary ball valves and butterfly valves with a handle that swings through ninety degrees.
It does not fit gate valves with a round wheel, and it does not fit taps. Go and look at the valve before ordering rather than after. If the handle is a wheel you turn several times, this will not work and no adapter will change that.
The leak sensor pairing is why most people buy one
What you get is a mains supply you can shut from your phone. Close the water before a trip. Shut the line to a geyser or a garden tap from bed.
The real reason, though, is automation: wire it to a leak sensor in the app and the water goes off by itself the moment the sensor gets wet. A burst hose at two in the morning becomes a wet patch rather than a flooded ground floor, and it does not need anybody to be awake.
It tells you where it is
The actuator reports back, so the app always shows whether the valve is open or shut rather than assuming. That matters on a device whose whole job is to be trusted while you are away.
It reports open or closed only, not partial positions, and takes 5 to 10 seconds to swing. There is a quick release pin so the valve can still be turned by hand in a power cut, which on a water main is not optional.
Two things to plan for
It is not waterproof. Mount it where a leak cannot reach it, which on a device installed to deal with leaks deserves a moment of thought. Under a sink is usually wrong; on an accessible run of pipe above the likely water line is right.
And it is mains powered, not battery: a 12V adapter is in the box, accepting 100 to 240V, so a socket has to be within reach. It joins 2.4GHz Wi-Fi with no gateway and runs in the Tuya or Smart Life app with Alexa and Google Home. Torque is 30 to 60 kgf cm against a 1.6 MPa pipe rating. Pair it with one of our leak sensors and the shut-off becomes automatic. Smart Life, the app it runs in, is a free download from Google Play.

Questions
Will it fit my valve?
Only if the handle is a lever that swings a quarter turn, which covers ordinary ball valves and butterfly valves. A gate valve with a round wheel that you spin several times will not work, and neither will a tap. Send us a photograph of your valve and we will tell you before you order.
Do I need a plumber?
No. Nothing is cut and the water does not have to be turned off. The clamp goes around the pipe and the arm grips the handle you already have.
Does it run on batteries?
No. It needs a 12 V adapter, and one is in the box. Plan a socket near the valve, or an extension to it, before you order.
What happens in a power cut?
The valve stays where it was, and there is a quick release pin so you can pull the arm off and turn it by hand. Nothing locks you out of your own water.
Can it shut the water off automatically if something leaks?
Yes. Put a leak sensor in the same app and set an automation, and the valve closes the moment the sensor gets wet. That is what most people buy it for. Ask us about sensors.
