Smart Lock - Rim/Gate Lock (S8535)

A surface mounted smart lock, or rim lock: it bolts onto the face of the door instead of being cut into its edge. That is what makes it the answer for a steel gate, an iron door or a framed glass door, none of which have an edge you can sink a mortise into.

The round fingerprint reader sits above the keypad, and there are five ways in: fingerprint, IC card, code, the Tuya app and a mechanical key. Wi-Fi is built in, so it joins your router on its own with no gateway to buy, and you get remote unlocking, temporary codes and the unlocking history in the app.

Fingerprints, cards and codes are each held against their own number, so you can remove one person's access without touching anybody else's, and the log tells you which one was used.

If the batteries go flat while you are out, a USB power bank against the outside panel wakes it up, and there is a mechanical key as well.

One fitting rule. The outside panel is weather resistant, but the manufacturer says plainly that the indoor unit is not rainproof. On a gate that means the back box has to sit on the sheltered side. If both sides of your gate are in the open, take the R5 rim lock instead, which is rated IP65 throughout.
