The Shelly RGBW bulb is open, and that is the point
Most smart bulbs will only talk to their manufacturer's app and whatever cloud sits behind it. The Shelly RGBW bulb speaks MQTT and a plain HTTP interface on your own network as well.
That means Home Assistant, openHAB or a script you wrote yourself can drive it directly, with no cloud service in the middle and no dependency on a company staying in business. If you run a local automation system, this is the bulb that fits it.
No hub, no gateway, no bridge
It joins your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi on its own. There is nothing else to buy and nothing else to plug in, which is unusual for a bulb with this much local control.
The Shelly app handles it, and Amazon Alexa and Google Home work on top. But none of those are required for the bulb to function on your own network.
800 lumens of colour, plus a white mode
16 million colours from 9W, in a standard E27 screw fitting. 800 lumens is roughly what an old 60W bulb produced, so it works as a real room light rather than only as mood lighting.
There is a separate white mode alongside the colours, dimmable across the whole range from the app.
Check your shade before ordering
The body is the original ribbed Shelly casing rather than a plain bulb shape. It is chunkier than a standard bulb, particularly around the base.
In an open pendant or a bare holder that is no problem. In a narrow shade or a tight enclosed fitting it may not go in, and that is worth measuring rather than discovering on installation day.
One figure we will confirm rather than guess
Shelly publish different white ranges across their RGBW bulbs, and we are not going to pick one and present it as settled for the unit we hold.
Ask us before ordering and we will confirm the range on the actual bulb in stock. If you only want tunable white and no colour, the Shelly Duo is the same open platform with a proper 2700K to 6500K range and power metering built in. Shelly publish the range at shelly.com.

Questions
Do I need a hub or gateway?
No. It joins your Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band by itself. Nothing else has to be bought.
Can I set the white to warm or cool?
Shelly have published more than one white specification across their RGBW bulbs, so rather than print a figure we cannot stand behind, ask us and we will confirm the range on the unit in stock. If tunable white is the main thing you want, the Shelly Duo is built for exactly that.
Can I run it without the internet?
Yes. It speaks MQTT and plain HTTP on your own network, so Home Assistant, openHAB or your own scripts drive it directly. The app and voice assistants are there if you want them, not required.
Will it fit my lamp?
The fitting is E27, the common large screw. Check the depth of the shade as well: this bulb has the original ribbed Shelly body rather than a plain bulb shape, so a very shallow fitting may be tight.
Does it work with Alexa or Google?
Yes, both, once it is set up in the Shelly app.
