The Shelly Duo bulb reports its own power use
The Shelly Duo bulb reports its own power consumption in watts, live, in the app. Almost no other bulb does this.
On one bulb that is a curiosity. Across a house of them it is a real number: which rooms are actually costing you, which lights get left on, and what a habit is worth changing. With Tanzanian electricity prices that is not a trivial feature.
Open, and not dependent on anyone's cloud
As well as the Shelly app and voice control, the bulb speaks MQTT and a plain HTTP interface on your own network.
So Home Assistant, openHAB or a script of your own can drive it directly, with nothing travelling to a server and back. Automations keep running through an internet outage, and the bulb does not stop working if a company changes its mind about supporting it.
2700K to 6500K, and what each end is for
Warm 2700K is the evening setting: a sitting room, a bedroom, a dining table. Cool 6500K reads as daylight and is what a kitchen worktop or a desk wants during the day.
One bulb covers both, which is the practical case for tunable white over a fixed warm bulb. 800 lumens from 9W in a standard E27 fitting, dimmable across the whole range.
No hub, and no colour
It joins your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi directly. No hub, no gateway, no bridge, and Alexa and Google Home work once it is added.
There is no colour in this bulb. Whites only. If you want 16 million colours on the same open Shelly platform, that is the Shelly RGBW bulb.
Who this bulb is really for
Anyone running Home Assistant or openHAB at home, and anyone who would rather their lights did not depend on a manufacturer's server being reachable.
If none of that means anything to you, a plain Wi-Fi smart bulb does the app-and-voice part for less money. The Shelly premium buys local control and power metering, and it is only worth paying if you will use them. Shelly publish the range at shelly.com.

Questions
Do I need a hub or gateway?
No. It joins your Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band by itself, which is the whole point of Shelly. Nothing else has to be bought.
Does it do colours?
No, whites only, but the whole white range from warm 2700 K to cool daylight 6500 K, and it dims. For colour, look at the Shelly RGBW bulb.
Can I use it without the cloud?
Yes. It speaks MQTT and a plain HTTP interface on your own network, so Home Assistant, openHAB or your own scripts can drive it directly, with no internet in the loop.
What is power metering good for?
The bulb tells you what it is actually drawing. On its own that is a small thing, but across a house of Shelly devices it is how you find out where the electricity is going.
Will it fit my lamp?
E27 is the common large screw fitting, so it goes into most pendants, table lamps and holders here without an adapter.
