About this product

A WiFi smart bulb GU10 for the two-pin push-and-twist spots used in ceiling downlights, track lights and display fittings.

Will a WiFi smart bulb GU10 fit your ceiling

GU10 is the two-pin push-and-twist spot used in ceiling downlights, track lighting and display fittings. You push it up into the holder and turn it a quarter turn to lock.

If your ceiling is full of small round spots roughly 50mm across, they are almost certainly GU10 and this bulb replaces them one for one. If the bulb screws in, you want the E27 version instead.

Downlights come in groups, and so does the payoff

Nobody has one downlight. A kitchen ceiling has six, a sitting room has eight, a corridor has four.

Group them in the app and the whole ceiling changes together from one tap or one voice command. That is where a WiFi smart bulb GU10 earns its money: not one clever spot, but a ceiling that goes from 6500K working light to 2700K evening light in a second.

Colour in a ceiling, used properly

16 million colours and tunable white from 2700K to 6500K. In practice the white range does the work and the colour gets used for a handful of things.

Where colour genuinely helps in a downlit ceiling: a single spot over a bar or a display shelf, a bathroom set low and amber at night, or a room that doubles as a gathering space. A whole ceiling of colour spots is impressive once and then set back to white.

No hub, and the band it needs

It joins your Wi-Fi directly with nothing else to buy, and runs from the Tuya or Smart Life app with Alexa and Google Assistant.

It needs the 2.4GHz band and cannot see 5GHz. If your router publishes both under one name, split them for pairing. Bear in mind that eight Wi-Fi spots is eight devices on your router, which is the point where the Zigbee version starts making more sense.

Before you order a ceiling full

Wattage and lumen figures vary between production batches on this bulb, and we will not publish a number that may not match what is in the box. Ask us and we will read the label on the stock we hold.

That matters more on downlights than on a single lamp, because a ceiling of spots at slightly different outputs is visible. Order them together from one batch, and tell us if you are matching against spots already fitted. The Smart Life app is on Google Play.

Questions

Will it fit my downlights?

If they take a GU10, yes. That is the fitting with two short pins on the back that you push in and twist a quarter turn. It is not the same as MR16, which has two thin pins and usually runs on 12 V through a transformer.

Do I need a hub?

No. Each bulb joins your Wi-Fi by itself.

Can I control a whole ceiling at once?

Yes. Group them in the app and they behave as one light, so six spots change colour or dim together from one tap or one voice command.

How many should I put on one router?

A handful is comfortable. If you are fitting out a whole ceiling of ten or more, Zigbee spots on a gateway keep your Wi-Fi clearer.

Why will it not connect?

Almost always the 5 GHz band. These bulbs join 2.4 GHz only, so if your router combines both under one name you may need to separate them while pairing.
