NodOn 2 Gang Switch

The NodOn 2 gang switch is a battery powered wall switch that looks like an ordinary plate and needs no wiring at all. Two rockers, four buttons, and it sticks up with the adhesive tape in the box or screws to the wall if you prefer.

Why a NodOn 2 gang switch looks like a switch

Because it is meant to be mistaken for one. Two rockers on an 80 mm square plate, sitting flat on the wall, and nobody visiting your house needs to be told what it is or how it works. Battery scene controllers usually announce themselves as gadgets; this one reads as the plate that has always been there, which is precisely why it gets used by everybody rather than by you.

Sixteen actions from four buttons

Each of the four buttons reports a simple press, a double press, a long press and a release. Sixteen instructions between them, and the hub decides what each one means. The release being reported separately is what allows a proper hold to dim, where the light keeps moving while your finger is down and stops when you lift it.

Where it goes that a wired switch cannot

A glass wall or a partition with no chase in it. The far side of a room from the wiring, where the switch should always have been. Beside a bed on the side that never had one. A rented flat where nothing may be cut into the wall. It sticks up with the adhesive tape in the box, or takes screws if you would rather, and comes off again leaving nothing behind.

Range and battery

Z-Wave Plus on the 500 series at 868 MHz, with up to 40 m indoors and 80 m outdoors. It runs on the CR2032 in the box, and it is 80 mm square, 15 mm thick and 52 grams, so it does not stand off the wall like a box.

What it needs

A Z-Wave controller, which is not included. The three we carry all run it: the Fibaro Home Center Lite, the Fibaro Home Center 2 and the Homey Pro.
