It stands about as tall as a credit card is long, so it disappears on a bookshelf or a kitchen counter, and it still turns a full 360° and tilts 100°, slightly further up and down than its full-size sibling. It records in 2K, and the on-device AI decides what is worth a notification: it can tell a person from general movement, and it reacts to sound as well, panning towards a noise it picks up. When you are home, Privacy Mode physically rotates the lens away from the room rather than just switching off the feed, which is a good deal more reassuring than a software toggle.

Recordings go to a microSD card in the camera, up to 128 GB, so there is no subscription needed and no base station to buy. It works with Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant on screen-equipped devices. It plugs into the mains and stays plugged in.

Worth knowing before you choose: the Mini trades some features for its size. It does not have the pet or baby-crying detection of the larger Pan & Tilt model, and it does not support Apple HomeKit.

What the Mini gives up for its size

Two things, and they are worth knowing before you choose it over the full-size Pan and Tilt. It does not have pet or baby-crying detection, only human, motion and sound. And it does not support Apple HomeKit, though Alexa and the Google Assistant both work on screen-equipped devices.

Storage is a microSD card up to 128 GB, Class 10, not included, so there is no subscription and no base station. It runs on a 5V 1A micro-USB adapter and stays plugged in. Indoor only: 95 mm tall, 159 g, not weatherproof, encrypted with AES-128.

Mini or full size
