About this product

A magnetic GPS tracker for a car, a lorry or a container. There is nothing to wire and nothing to fit. The magnets are strong enough to hold it under a chassis, and once it is there it reports where the vehicle is.

It needs a SIM card, and it is a 2G device.

Why a magnetic GPS tracker rather than a wired one

Nothing to fit and nothing to find. A wired tracker means an auto electrician, a morning off the road and a device spliced into the loom, where anyone who goes looking will eventually look. This one is held on by magnets strong enough to sit under a chassis, inside a wheel arch or in the frame of a container, and it can be moved to a different vehicle in ten seconds. For a fleet where the vehicle that matters changes week to week, that is the practical difference.

The battery is the reason to choose this one

10,000 mAh, which the maker quotes at up to 150 days of standby on a charge. Read standby carefully: what you actually get depends entirely on how often you ask it for a position. A tracker polled every few minutes will not see anything like 150 days. Left asleep and queried when something is wrong, it will go for months, and that is the use this battery is sized for.

Three ways to get a position

Call the tracker and it replies by SMS with a Google Maps link. Send it the command G123456# and it does the same. Or open the app, which also gives you the route history, a geofence you draw on the map with alerts when the vehicle enters or leaves it, an over speed alarm and a vibration alarm. Position comes from GPS with AGPS assistance, quoted at about 5 metres, and the case is rated IP58.

Read this about the SIM before you buy

It needs a SIM card, and it is a 2G device. It will work on a 2G GSM SIM, or on a local 3G or 4G SIM that still has a 2G network behind it. Networks in different countries are retiring 2G at different times, so this is the one thing to check with your operator first rather than after the tracker is under the vehicle. Ask us if you want help confirming it.

What you need to have ready

A SIM on a network that answers the paragraph above, and a charge before it goes on the vehicle. There is nothing else: no wiring, no bracket, no installer and no fixed monthly charge from us. The app is free and takes several devices on one account, so a small fleet lives on one screen.

If the thing you want watched is a building rather than a vehicle, the eufy Security alarm kit is the place to start, and a standalone door alarm is the cheapest way to put a noise on a container door.

Wikipedia keeps a plain summary of 2G networks and where they are being switched off, which is the background to the SIM question above.

Questions

Do I need a SIM card?

Yes, and it is not included. It is a 2G device, so you need a SIM on a network that still carries 2G.

How do I find the vehicle?

Three ways. Call the number in the tracker and it replies with a Google Maps link. Send it G123456# by SMS for the same. Or open the app.

How long does the battery really last?

The maker quotes up to 150 days standby on the 10,000 mAh cell. Ask it for a position every few minutes and it will be far less. The more you track, the more often you charge.

Where do I put it?

Anywhere flat and steel. Under the chassis, in a wheel arch, inside a container. The magnets hold it and it is rated IP58 for the weather.

Can I be told if it leaves an area?

Yes. Draw a geofence and you get a notification when the tracker enters or leaves it. There are also over speed and vibration alarms.
