About this product
The Homey Pro 2023 is the flagship, rebuilt as a slim black disc with a quad-core processor behind it. It carries more radios than anything else on this shelf and adds the two that matter for what comes next: Thread and Matter.
- Thread and Matter, and why they are the reason to buy this one
- Every radio the Homey Pro 2023 carries
- Range and processing, against the older spheres
- Flows, and nothing leaving the house
- One thing to plan for before it arrives
Thread and Matter, and why they are the reason to buy this one
Matter is the standard the industry finally agreed on, so a device carrying the Matter badge works with any Matter controller regardless of who made it. Thread is the low-power mesh radio a lot of Matter devices use to get there.
The Homey Pro 2023 is a Thread border router and a Matter controller. Everything else on this shelf can only reach the devices that existed when it was designed. This one can reach what is being made now.
Every radio the Homey Pro 2023 carries
Wi-Fi on 2.4 and 5GHz, Bluetooth LE 5.0, Zigbee 3.0 on a three-antenna radio rated to around 200 devices, Z-Wave Plus 700 series with S2 security, 433MHz, a 360 degree infrared blaster, Thread and Matter.
In practice that means Hue lights, Z-Wave sensors, the old 433MHz sockets in the store room, the air conditioner that only answers a remote, and the newest Matter kit all arrive in one app and can be used in one automation.
Range and processing, against the older spheres
Underneath is a quad-core ARMv8 with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, which is a different class of machine from the 2019 sphere and its dual core.
Range improved too. Zigbee, Z-Wave, infrared and 433MHz all reach considerably further than the older model, which in a compound with outbuildings is often the difference between a sensor that reports and one that does not.
Flows, and nothing leaving the house
Automations are Homey Flows: a trigger, a condition and an action dragged together. No code, and devices from brands that have never heard of each other end up working as one system.
All of it is processed on the device. There is no subscription, and there is no cloud that has to be reachable for your lights to come on. Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri all work on top.
One thing to plan for before it arrives
This model has no ethernet socket. It joins your network over Wi-Fi. If you want it wired there is an optional USB-C ethernet adapter, and we will include one if you ask at the time of ordering rather than after.
If a wired connection is not negotiable and Matter is not something you need yet, the Homey Pro 2019 has an ethernet port built in. The standard Homey is the entry point into the same Flows and the same app. Athom publish the full specification at homey.app.

Questions
Which radios does it have?
Wi-Fi on 2.4 and 5 GHz, Bluetooth LE 5.0, Zigbee 3.0 on a three-antenna radio, Z-Wave Plus 700 series with S2 security, 433 MHz, infrared through a 360 degree blaster, a Thread border router and Matter. It is the widest coverage of anything we stock, which is why it ends up being the only hub a house needs.
Does it have an ethernet port?
Not built in, and this is the one thing to plan for. It joins your network over Wi-Fi. If you want it wired, there is an optional USB-C ethernet adapter, and we can supply one with the hub if you ask.
How many devices will it take?
The Zigbee radio is rated at around 200 devices, and Z-Wave adds its own network on top. In practice it is not the number of devices people run out of, it is wall space.
Is there a monthly fee?
No. Everything is processed on the hub itself. Homey sell a separate cloud-based service, but this is the local Pro hub and there is no subscription attached to it.
What is Matter and do I need it?
Matter is the standard the big platforms agreed on so that new devices work across Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung without separate versions. This hub is a Matter controller and a Thread border router, which means new Matter and Thread kit joins it directly. Nothing you already own stops working either, since the older radios are all still here.
