About this product

The Govee Flow Pro light bars stand either side of a screen and throw colour onto the wall behind it. A camera is in the box, which is what separates this set from ordinary light bars.

The Govee Flow Pro light bars include the camera

Plenty of RGB light bars stand beside a monitor and glow. The Govee Flow Pro light bars come with a camera in the box, and that is the whole difference.

It clips to the top of the screen, you teach it where the edges are using the orange calibration cubes supplied, and from then on the bars follow whatever is on the screen in real time. A game, a film, a football match, anything.

RGBIC per bar, not one colour each

Each bar holds several colours at once up its height rather than one flat colour, and the two work as a pair.

So during a game the top of the left bar can be sky and the bottom can be grass. A pair of single-colour bars would show one averaged colour each, which looks like mood lighting rather than an extension of the picture.

Desk, monitor or television

Each bar is about 250mm tall on a base, so they stand on a desk either side of a monitor without dominating it.

Screen brackets are also supplied if you would rather mount them to the back of a television. Free standing on a desk is what most people do, because that is where a 400 lumen bar is the right brightness.

Music mode, and the control box

There is a control box with a microphone in it, so the bars can respond to sound in the room rather than to the screen.

That is a separate mode from screen sync, and it is the one that gets used when nothing is playing on screen. Both run from the Govee Home app.

Bars, or a strip behind the screen

Bars are the right answer for a desk, a monitor or a room where you cannot get behind the screen to stick anything down. They also move to another desk later, which a strip does not.

For a wall-mounted television, a strip around the back gives a wider spread of colour: the Immersion backlight is that, and the Immersion Pro kit is both a strip and bars driven by one camera. All three run on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with Alexa and Google, and none has a subscription. Govee list the range at govee.com.

Questions

How do they follow the screen?

The camera clips to the top of the display and watches the picture. Colours from the edges of the image are pushed out to the bars, so the wall matches what you are watching or playing.

What are the orange cubes for?

Calibration. You stick them on the corners of the screen once, the camera learns where the picture starts and ends, and then they come off. Keep them in case you move the screen.

Does it work with a console and a decoder?

Yes. The camera reads the picture on the screen, so it does not care what is producing it. Anything you can see, it can follow.

Do they work without the camera?

Yes. They still run scenes, colours, dimming and music mode from the app. The camera is what adds screen matching on top.

Do I need a hub?

No. They join your Wi-Fi directly and run from the Govee Home app, with Alexa and Google available once set up.
