The eufy Lumi motion light comes as a set of three, which is more useful than it sounds. Most people buy them for one job and find two more within a week.

A corridor at night. The inside of a wardrobe. A stair. A store room. The back of a kitchen cupboard where the door blocks the ceiling light. A meter box. None of those places has a socket, and none of them is worth wiring.

A year per set, and why that is believable

The light runs only when something moves within about three metres across a 120 degree arc, and only when the room is already dark. It goes out about fifteen seconds after the movement stops. Add that up over a day and it is a few minutes of actual running.

Buy batteries with them

Batteries are not included. Each light takes three AAA cells, so a set of three needs nine.

Order them at the same time rather than discovering it on the evening the lights arrive. It is the single most common complaint on this product and it is entirely avoidable.

Sticking them up, and taking them down again

Each one goes up with the adhesive pad supplied or with a screw, so they can be repositioned if the first spot turns out to be wrong.

Use the adhesive first. Almost everybody moves at least one of the three after living with them for a week, and a screw hole in a wardrobe is harder to undo than a sticky pad.

Where these are not the right answer

They give warm white light and nothing else. No colour, no dimming, no app, no Wi-Fi and no schedule. That simplicity is the product.

If you want a brighter bar for a long shelf or a run under kitchen units, the rechargeable closet light is longer and charges by USB instead of taking batteries.
