About this product

The BroadLink RM Pro+ is one black triangle on a shelf that replaces every remote in the room, and then some.

Infrared needs line of sight and stops at a wall. A great deal of what people already own is radio instead: garage doors, roller shutters, some ceiling fans, cheap remote sockets.

The BroadLink RM Pro+ sends both. The radio side reaches about 30 metres and goes through walls; the infrared side covers a room at 8 to 10 metres. A quick test at home: if your remote works through a closed door, it is radio, and only this hub will reach it.

It learns anything you point at it

Hold your existing remote up to it, press the button, and it copies the code.

That is what makes it work with the odd air conditioner or decoder nobody has heard of, which in Dar is most of them. The app has its own code library, but the learning function is the reason this hub keeps working when the library does not have your model.

What it puts on your phone

Televisions, decoders, air conditioners, fans and amplifiers on the infrared side. Gates, shutters and RF sockets on the radio side.

All of it in the BroadLink app, with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT once it is set up. The air conditioner is usually the first thing people automate and the gate is usually the second.

What it needs from your network

2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and 5V 1A over micro USB. It is a fair size at about 110mm square and 30mm tall, so give it a shelf rather than tucking it behind the television where it cannot see the room.

Setup needs an account and an internet connection, and remote control from outside the house needs the internet too. That is worth knowing if your line drops often, because a BroadLink on a dead connection cannot be reached from the next room either.

One radio figure published two ways

Sources publish the radio as 433MHz, and as 315 with 433MHz. We record both rather than promising a band we cannot confirm on the unit in stock. If you have a specific gate or shutter remote in mind, tell us its frequency and we will check it against the hub before you buy.

If you only need infrared, and would rather have everything in one app alongside the rest of your Tuya kit, the WiFi IR Controller is simpler and cheaper. BroadLink publish their range at ibroadlink.com.

Questions

What can radio control that infrared cannot?

Anything that does not need line of sight: garage doors, roller shutters, some ceiling fans and the cheap remote sockets sold everywhere. Infrared has to see the appliance. Radio goes through walls and reaches about 30 metres.

Will it work with my air conditioner?

Almost certainly. The app carries a large library, and where a model is missing you point the original remote at the unit and it copies the code button by button.

Does it need line of sight for the TV?

For infrared, yes. Put it where it can see the front of the equipment, or bounce it off a wall. Inside a cabinet with the door shut it will not work.

What stops working without internet?

Setup needs an account and a connection, and so does control from outside the house and anything through Alexa or Google. There is no subscription to pay.

How is it different from the cheaper WiFi IR Controller we sell?

That one is infrared only and lives in the Tuya or Smart Life app with the rest of your kit. This one adds radio and uses BroadLink's own app. Buy this if you need RF; buy that one if you do not.
