Sixteen scenes on the Remotec Scene Master
Eight buttons, and each reads a single press and a double press. That is sixteen instructions to your hub from one flat plate, which is enough to hold every scene a normal house actually uses: movie, dinner, goodnight, gate, veranda, everything off, and still have room left over. The hub decides what all sixteen mean, so nothing is fixed by the hardware.
It works as a plate or as a remote
110 by 70 mm and 13.5 mm thick. Flat enough to sit on a wall like a switch plate, small enough to leave loose on a side table beside a sofa. That flexibility matters more than it sounds, because the right place for a scene controller is usually discovered after living with it for a fortnight, not decided on the day it arrives.
No wiring, no back box, no electrician
It runs on two AAA cells, so it goes on a glass wall, a tiled wall, a rented flat where nothing may be chased, or the far side of a room from any wiring. Remotec rate the batteries at a year at thirty presses a day, which is heavy use for a scene remote.
Where eight buttons beats four
Four button remotes force you to use double taps and holds for everything past the first four, and then nobody remembers which is which. Eight labelled positions can be learned by the household rather than by the person who set it up. If the point is that other people use your scenes, more buttons beats more gestures.
What it needs
A Z-Wave controller, not included. It is Z-Wave Plus and runs on any of the three we stock: the Fibaro Home Center Lite, the Fibaro Home Center 2 and the Homey Pro.
For something that goes in a pocket instead, the Aeotec NanoMote Quad or the Fibaro KeyFob. Remotec are at remotec.co.
