What a WiFi LED strip controller actually does
If you already have plain RGB strip running off a 12V or 24V supply, it is a dumb light: whatever the little remote that came with it can do, and nothing more.
This controller goes in between the power supply and the strip. It joins your Wi-Fi and puts the whole run into the Tuya or Smart Life app, with colours, brightness, effects, timers and schedules, plus Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The strip itself does not change at all.
The spare nobody buys until it is too late
In a cheap strip kit the controller is the part that fails first. The LEDs and the adhesive usually outlast it by years.
When it goes, most people throw out a perfectly good five metre run because they cannot find the controller on its own. Keeping one on a shelf, or ordering one alongside a kit, is worth doing on any installation that would be awkward to redo.
Check what your strip is before ordering
The output is the standard 4 pin RGB connector, and that is the only kind it drives.
It will not run RGBW 5 pin strip, and it will not run addressable RGBIC strip. Those carry a different number of conductors and a different signal, and each needs its own controller. Count the pins on your existing connector before ordering: four means this fits, five or three means it does not.
Control without a phone
There is an infrared receiver eye on the lead and a 24 key remote in the box.
That is worth having for the same reason as on any strip: it works when the internet is down, and anybody in the room can use it without being added to an account. Position the eye somewhere it can actually see the room rather than tucking it behind the cabinet with the controller.
One figure that is published two ways
The input voltage is listed as DC 5 to 24V on some sources and DC 12 to 24V on others. We record both rather than picking the wider range and hoping.
If your existing supply is 12V or 24V, either figure covers you. If it is 5V, ask us first and we will check the unit in stock before you order. The power supply is not included, because the whole point is that it uses the one you already have. If you want a complete kit instead, the 5 metre RGBW strip kit has the strip, controller, adapter and remote in one box. The app it runs on is documented at tuya.com.

Questions
Will it fit my strip?
If your strip has the common four pin RGB connector, yes. Count the pins first. A five pin strip is RGBW and an addressable RGBIC strip has three wires and a data line, and neither of those works with this controller.
What voltage does it take?
Listings for this controller publish two ranges, 5 to 24 V and 12 to 24 V. Most RGB strip here runs on 12 V, which is inside both. Tell us what your supply says and we will confirm before you order.
Is a power supply included?
No. This replaces the control box, not the transformer. It runs on the supply already feeding your strip.
Why would I buy this on its own?
Two reasons. To make an ordinary RGB strip you already own controllable from a phone, and to replace a control box that has died, which is usually what goes first in a cheap strip kit.
Does the remote work without Wi-Fi?
Yes. The infrared remote talks to the receiver eye directly, so colours and brightness still work if the network is down.
