What the Govee Aura smart table lamp does with RGBIC
An ordinary colour lamp shows one colour at a time. Set it purple and the whole thing is purple.
The Govee Aura smart table lamp splits the light into segments that each hold a different colour, so the frosted dome carries a gradient or a slow drift between shades. On a dome that is the whole effect: colour that moves across the surface rather than a flat wash.
Where a 350 lumen lamp belongs
350 lumens is atmosphere rather than illumination. It will change the feel of a corner and it will not light a room to read by.
A side table, a bedside, a desk, a shelf behind a television, a reception counter. Somewhere the light is meant to be looked at rather than worked under. For actual room light you want bulbs, and this sits alongside them.
Music mode, and the microphone inside it
There is a microphone in the lamp itself, so it responds to sound in the room without your phone having to be nearby or unlocked.
Four music modes are built in. It is the mode that gets used at a gathering, and the one that makes the lamp worth more than its light output suggests.
Wi-Fi, voice and the app
It joins your Wi-Fi and runs from the Govee Home app. Once it is on the network Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant can switch it and set scenes by voice.
Power is a 12V 1A adapter accepting 100 to 240V mains, so nothing extra is needed for Tanzanian supply. The lamp stands about 200mm tall on a 103mm base.
One figure Govee publish two ways
Govee list both 20 and 37 scene effects for this lamp in different places. We record both rather than quoting the larger number as though it were settled.
Either way it is more presets than anybody works through, and the app lets you build your own regardless. If you want a light you can carry away from a socket, the Ambient portable lamp has a battery instead. Govee list the range at govee.com.

Questions
What does RGBIC actually mean?
The light is split into segments that each hold their own colour. An ordinary colour lamp is one colour at a time; this one carries a gradient across the dome, or drifts between shades.
How bright is it?
350 lumens, which is a mood lamp rather than a room light. It changes the feel of a corner; it will not light a room to read in.
Does it need a hub?
No. It joins your Wi-Fi directly and runs from the Govee Home app on your phone.
Will it work with Alexa or Google?
Yes, both, once it is set up in the Govee Home app.
Does it react to music?
Yes. There is a microphone in the lamp with four music modes, so it moves with whatever is playing in the room.
