Two versions of the Govee Ambient portable smart light
Govee sell the Govee Ambient portable smart light in a Bluetooth-only version and a Bluetooth plus Wi-Fi version, and only the Wi-Fi one answers to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Everything else is identical: same body, same battery, same brightness, same scenes. But if voice control is part of why you want it, ask us which version we are holding before you order and we will check the box rather than assume.
A lamp with no cable attached
The 3,350mAh battery gives about four hours of light on Govee's figure, and takes about four hours to fill from the 1.8 metre charging cable.
That is what changes where it can go. Onto the dinner table for a meal. Out to a covered balcony. Onto a bedside with no socket behind it. It is shaped like a shallow bowl on two small feet, so you can tilt it and aim the light rather than only pointing it up.
The scenes are the reason people keep it out
Candlelight, fireflies, bonfire, fireworks, and a long list besides. These are moving effects rather than static colours, which is what separates it from a lamp that simply glows.
There is a music mode with adjustable sensitivity as well. 350 lumens, dimmable from 1 to 100 per cent, so it goes from a soft night light to as bright as it gets.
Size and weight
About 155mm square and 94mm tall, weighing 750g. Heavy enough to sit still on a table outdoors in a breeze, light enough to carry in one hand with a drink in the other.
It is not weather rated. A covered balcony is fine; leaving it out in the rain is not.
Portable, or plugged in
Take this one if the light needs to move: table to balcony to bedside, with no socket involved. The battery is the whole point and everything else follows from it.
If the lamp is going to live in one spot beside a socket, the Govee Aura table lamp is mains powered, always on Wi-Fi, and never needs charging. Govee list both at govee.com.

How long does it run off the battery?
Govee rate it at about four hours from a full charge, and about four hours to charge back up. Left plugged in it runs indefinitely.
Will it work with Alexa or Google?
Only on the Wi-Fi version. Govee sell this lamp both ways, Bluetooth only and Bluetooth plus Wi-Fi, and the Bluetooth only one has no voice control at all. Ask us which we are holding before you order.
Can it go outside?
It is meant for indoors and covered spaces. Govee publish no weather rating for it, so keep it out of the rain.
Does it react to music?
Yes, with sensitivity you can set from calm through to party, so it can drift slowly or pulse hard.
How bright is it?
350 lumens, which is atmosphere rather than room lighting. It works as a table light, a bedside light or a shelf accent.
