About this product
The Shelly Motion Sensor is a motion sensor that joins your Wi-Fi directly and runs for a year or more on its own built in battery. No hub, no gateway, and no wire to the wall once it is charged.

Why the Shelly Motion Sensor reacts before you notice it
Under 200 milliseconds from movement to trigger. That number sounds like a specification and behaves like a feeling: the light is already on as you come round the corner, rather than a beat after you have started to reach for a switch. Cheap PIR sensors run at half a second or worse, and that gap is precisely what makes people give up on automatic lighting and go back to the switch.
256 sensitivity levels, and the dog
Most sensors give you low, medium and high. This one gives 256 steps, and a separate 128 step vibration sensor that reports the unit being tampered with. The fine control is what lets you set a corridor to ignore a dog and still catch a person, which is the difference between an alarm you trust and one you switch off after the third false call.
The light sensor changes what the rule can be
Brightness is measured alongside movement, so a rule can be conditional on it rather than just on time. The version worth setting up: full light during the day, and after midnight the same movement brings a lamp up very dimly instead. That is the difference between finding the kitchen at 3 am and waking the whole house doing it.
It charges, it does not take batteries
A 6500 mAh cell is built in and charges over micro USB, with Shelly quoting 12 to 36 months depending on how much traffic it sees. No CR123A to source, no battery compartment to open. The charger is not included, which is fair enough since most houses have a dozen. Operating range is 0 to 40 degrees, so it belongs indoors.
What it drives
Anything on your Wi-Fi. It speaks MQTT, CoAP and REST as well as Shelly Cloud, so it can switch a Shelly 1 or ramp a Shelly Dimmer entirely on the local network, with no hub and no internet in the path.
If your system is Z-Wave rather than Wi-Fi, the Fibaro Motion Sensor is the equivalent. Shelly own catalogue is at shelly.com.

Do I need a hub?
No. It joins your Wi-Fi directly.
How is it charged?
Micro USB. Shelly do not include a charger, so use any phone charger you already have.
Will the dog set it off?
There are 256 sensitivity levels and Shelly tune it for exactly this. Set it lower and aim it across the room rather than at the floor.
Can it turn on a light on its own?
It can send the command straight to another Shelly device on the same network, so the light comes on without the internet or a hub being involved.
Can it be used outside?
It is rated 0 to 40 degrees and is not weatherproofed. Keep it under cover.
