About this product

The Shelly humidity sensor is a temperature and humidity sensor that joins Wi-Fi on its own. No hub, no gateway. It reports to the app and, more usefully, it can tell any other Shelly device on the network to do something about what it has read.

What a Shelly humidity sensor is really for

Reading a number is the small half. The useful half is that it can tell another Shelly device on the same network to do something about that number, with no hub in the middle and nothing going out to the internet. Humidity over your threshold starts the extractor. Temperature over yours starts the air conditioning. The sensor holds the rule and the relay does the work.

It has no display, and that is the trade

This is the original H&T. The reading lives in the app and nowhere else. If somebody in the room is meant to glance at the number, this is the wrong one and the Plus version with the e-paper screen is the right one. If the reading exists only to drive a rule, a display is money spent on nothing.

Where you put it matters more than the sensor does

The commonest mistake is mounting the sensor where it is convenient rather than where the reading matters: in the corridor, near the door, next to a window in the sun. It is 35 by 46 mm and 33 grams with the battery in, small and white enough to sit in the middle of the room it is measuring. Put it there. A sensor reading the wrong air runs the cooling on the wrong information all year.

Battery, or the USB adapter

One CR123A cell gives up to 18 months. If it is going somewhere you would rather never open again, Shelly make a USB adapter for it, sold separately. Range is 20 to 90 per cent relative humidity and -10 to 50 degrees, which covers anything a house here will do to it.

Which one you want

The Shelly Plus H&T is the same two readings with an e-paper display on the front and AA cells behind it. This one is smaller, cheaper and app only.

To act on the reading you need something to switch: a Shelly 1 on the extractor, or a Shelly 1PM if you also want to see what the fan is costing you. The rest of the Shelly range is at shelly.com.

Questions

Do I need a hub?

No. It joins your Wi-Fi directly.

Does it have a screen?

No. The reading is in the app. If you want it on the wall, the Shelly Plus H&T has an e-paper display.

Can it switch a fan on by itself?

Yes, through another Shelly device on the same network. You set the humidity level and it sends the command locally.

Can I run it without a battery?

Shelly make a USB adapter for it, sold separately. Ask us if we have one in stock.

How long does the battery last?

Shelly quote up to 18 months on one CR123A, depending on how often it wakes up to report.

Anything else? Ask us on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight.
