About this product
The Shelly Door Sensor 2 is a door and window sensor that joins your Wi-Fi directly. No hub, no bridge, no gateway. Two parts stick on, the sensor on the frame and the magnet on the leaf, and the moment they separate your phone is told.

What the Shelly Door Sensor 2 reports beyond open and closed
Five things, not one. Separation of the two parts gives you open and closed. On top of that there is a light level reading, tilt detection, vibration detection and a temperature reading from -10 to 50 degrees. For the price of one sensor on one window you get most of what a room needs to describe itself.
Tilt and vibration catch what a plain contact misses
A casement window swung open on its hinge, rather than slid, can leave a magnetic contact happy while the window stands wide. Tilt catches that. Vibration catches the other one: somebody working on the frame from outside, before anything opens at all. On a ground floor window facing a compound wall, that early warning is the whole reason to fit a sensor rather than a lock.
It does not depend on anybody cloud
Because it is a Shelly it speaks to other Shelly devices on your own network over MQTT or plain HTTP, so a window opening can switch off an air conditioner without a single packet leaving the building. That matters here, where the line goes down and stays down. It also answers to Alexa and Google Assistant when you want the convenience.
Batteries are not included
It takes two CR123A lithium cells and Shelly quote 18 months from a set. CR123A is not a cell most kiosks carry, so buy a spare pair at the same time rather than discovering that in eighteen months. Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only, which is normal for this class of device and worth checking against your router.
What it works with
Anything on your Wi-Fi, and Shelly relays in particular. A window opening can cut the Shelly 1 feeding an air conditioner, or bring on a light through the Shelly Dimmer. There is no hub in the chain at any point.
If you are building on Z-Wave rather than Wi-Fi, the Fibaro door sensor is the equivalent. Shelly list their range at shelly.com.

Questions
Do I need a hub?
No. It joins your Wi-Fi directly, which is the main reason to choose a Shelly sensor over a Zigbee or Z-Wave one.
Are the batteries included?
No. It takes two CR123A lithium cells. Do not use rechargeables, Shelly say so specifically.
What is the tilt sensor for?
A window that is swung open rather than slid. The magnet may still be near the sensor, but the tilt reading shows the leaf has moved.
Will it work if the internet goes down?
Local actions to other Shelly devices and over MQTT keep working on your own network. Only the phone notification from outside the house needs the internet.
How far from the router can it be?
Shelly quote up to 30 metres indoors and 50 metres outdoors. Walls and metal cut that down, so test the spot before you fix it.
