About this product

How the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box reads the picture
Cheap TV backlight kits use a camera clipped to the top of the television, pointed at the picture. That works until somebody walks past, or the room lights change, or the camera drifts out of alignment.
The Hue Play HDMI Sync Box sits in the signal path instead. Your decoder, console, streaming stick and Blu-ray player plug into it, one cable runs out to the television, and it reads the video as it passes through. It does not care what the television is, what app is playing, or who is standing in front of it.
Four in, one out, and what it passes through
Four HDMI inputs and one output, HDMI 2.0b with HDCP 2.2, so protected content from a streaming stick passes through rather than showing a black screen.
Up to 4K at 60Hz, and 1080p or 1440p at 120Hz for a console. If you game at 120Hz, check that figure against what your television and console are actually running before you order.
What else has to be in the room
Two things, and neither is in the box. A Philips Hue Bridge, and at least one colour capable Hue light in the entertainment area.
It pairs naturally with the Hue Play light bar behind the screen, or the Play Gradient Lightstrip wrapped around the back of it. A colour bulb in a nearby lamp works too, though the effect is less precise.
Setting it up
It joins your network over 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth 4.2 for the initial pairing. Power is 7W in use and 1W on standby, from the 24V adapter supplied.
The whole arrangement runs from the Hue Sync app, where you pick which lights belong to the entertainment area and how strongly they follow the picture.
An honest note about the pack we hold
Our stock is the North American pack, carrying the UL mark, so the mains plug is US type. The adapter itself is 24V DC.
Ask us before ordering and we will read the input voltage range off the actual unit rather than quoting a datasheet at you. Rated life is 10,000 hours. Philips list the Play range at philips-hue.com.

Questions
Will it work with my television?
It does not depend on the television at all. Everything plugs into the Sync Box and one cable goes on to the screen, so it works the same with any HDMI set.
Does it sync Netflix or YouTube built into my smart TV?
Only if that source runs through the Sync Box. Anything playing from an app inside the television never passes through it. Use a stick or a box plugged into one of the four inputs and it syncs perfectly.
What do I need besides the Sync Box?
A Hue Bridge and at least one colour capable Hue light in the room. The Play light bars and the Play Gradient Lightstrip are the two made for it, and we sell both.
Will the plug fit our sockets?

Will it slow down my console?
