Why a Govee RGBIC LED strip is worth the difference

An ordinary RGB strip is one colour end to end. Set it red and all five metres are red.

A Govee RGBIC LED strip is divided into segments that each hold their own colour, so it runs a rainbow, a gradient or a chase along its length. Under a counter or behind a headboard that is the difference between a light and something people notice.

Five metres, and where it goes

Under a kitchen counter so the worktop is lit and the fitting is hidden. Behind a headboard. Along a shelf, up a stair, around the back of a desk, or around the top of a room at cornice level.

The backing is 3M adhesive, which holds properly on a clean dry surface and not at all on a dusty or textured one. Wipe the surface down first; it is the single most common reason a strip falls off a week later.

What the app actually lets you do

Segmented colour control, so you can paint the strip section by section. A gradient tool: set the two ends to different colours and let it blend between them. A DIY editor for building your own patterns and saving them.

Plus timers, brightness, and a music mode driven by the phone microphone. All of it in the Govee Home app, with no subscription attached.

Power and connection

It runs on 12V from the adapter supplied, so there is no mains wiring involved. Plan where the socket sits before you stick the strip down, because the adapter end is fixed.

It joins your Wi-Fi and answers to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant once set up, so a strip behind a television can be switched on by voice without hunting for a phone.

Indoors only

This strip has no weather rating. Kitchens, bedrooms, sitting rooms and offices are fine. An outside wall, a veranda edge exposed to the rain, or a bathroom with a shower running is not.
