Why the Govee Lyra smart corner floor lamp changes a room
The Govee Lyra smart corner floor lamp stands 1.4 metres tall on a 137mm square base, so it occupies almost no floor and washes the two walls meeting behind it.
Light bounced off two walls fills a room far more evenly than a lamp pointed into it. That is why a corner uplighter changes how a sitting room feels in a way a table lamp cannot, and why this is usually the first thing people notice when they walk in.
1,500 lumens is real light
Most colour lamps are atmosphere at 300 or 400 lumens. This one puts out 1,500, which is enough to be the light you actually use in the evening rather than a decoration alongside the ceiling fitting.
The white range runs 2200K to 6500K, so the same lamp is low amber at night and bright neutral white for working. That is the RGBICWW part: colour and proper whites in one fitting, rather than colour LEDs pretending to make white.
Several colours at once, up its height
RGBIC means the lamp holds different colours at different points up the column rather than one flat colour.
So a gradient can run from warm at the bottom to cool at the top, or two colours can meet in the middle. On a 1.4 metre column that is a visible effect from across a room, not a subtle one.
The remote is also the microphone
A magnetic remote clips to the lamp itself, so it does not get lost down the side of a sofa, and it doubles as the microphone for the six music modes.
Putting the microphone in the remote rather than the lamp body means it can sit closer to the source. There are 64 scene modes as well, which is more than anybody works through, but the useful dozen are easy to find.
Setting it up
It slots together from a few parts with no tools. It runs on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth through the Govee Home app, and answers to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Bear the height in mind against a low ceiling or a room with a fan in the corner. If a floor lamp is too much for the space, the Govee Aura table lamp gives you the same colour behaviour at table height and a fraction of the output. Govee list the range at govee.com.

Questions
Is it bright enough to actually light a room?
At 1,500 lumens, yes. It is the brightest thing in this section and it will light a living room corner properly, not just tint it.
Does it do plain white as well as colour?
Yes. The white range runs from 2200 K warm right up to 6500 K daylight, so it works as an ordinary floor lamp and as a colour lamp.
How much floor does it take?
The base is 137 mm square, about the size of a coffee mug coaster, so it slides into a corner behind furniture.
Does it need a hub?
No. It joins your Wi-Fi on the 2.4 GHz band and runs from the Govee Home app, with Alexa and Google available once set up.
Does it come with a remote?
Yes, a magnetic one that clips onto the lamp. It also acts as the microphone for the music modes.
