About this product
The Fibaro door sensor is a Z-Wave magnetic contact for doors, windows, garage doors and roller shutters, with a temperature sensor built in, so one small device tells the hub both that the window is open and how warm the room is.

- The temperature reading earns its place

A Z-Wave hub is required.
What a Fibaro door sensor is actually doing
It reports one thing honestly: the body and the magnet are together, or they are apart. Everything after that belongs to the hub. Arm the alarm at night and an opening becomes a siren. Arm nothing and the same opening turns on the passage light at two in the morning, or logs who came in and when. The sensor is deliberately dumb, which is why it lasts years on a battery and why it fits doors, windows, garage doors and roller shutters equally well.
The temperature reading earns its place
There is a temperature sensor built into the same body, and on the coast it pays for itself on one rule: stop the air conditioning while a window stands open. That is the most expensive habit in a Dar es Salaam house and no amount of reminding people fixes it. A contact plus a temperature reading in one device lets the hub handle it without anybody being told off.
It sticks on, and it says if it is interfered with
Adhesive mounting, nothing to drill and nothing to wire. An LED on the front shows status while you are setting it up, so you are not guessing whether it paired. Tamper detection reports the sensor being pulled off the frame or prised open, which is the obvious first move for anyone who knows what it is.
One thing to know about the mesh
It is a battery device, so it does not repeat the signal for other Z-Wave devices the way a mains powered module does. Worth knowing when you are planning coverage across a large house: sensors extend what you can see, mains devices extend how far the network reaches. Security is AES-128 when the network is run in secure mode.
Colours, and what it needs
Fibaro list seven colours for this sensor. Ask us which we are holding before you order rather than assuming, because the stock varies.
It needs a Z-Wave hub. The controllers we stock for it are the Fibaro Home Center Lite, the Fibaro Home Center 2 and the Homey Pro. If you want tilt reported as well as open and closed, the Aeotec door sensor does that. Fibaro publish this one at fibaro.com.

Questions
Do I need a hub?
Yes. It speaks Z-Wave only.
What is the temperature sensor for?
It reports room temperature to the hub from the same device, which is enough to drive heating or air conditioning rules without a second sensor on the wall.
How far apart can the body and the magnet sit?
They need to be close and aligned, side by side on the frame and the moving part. Fit them with the marks lined up and test before you press the adhesive down hard.
Will it work on a metal gate or a roller shutter?
It is designed for doors, windows, garage doors and roller shutters. Metal close to the sensor can shorten radio range, so test the position before fixing it.
Which colour will I get?
Fibaro make seven. Ask us what is on the shelf before you order a particular one.
Anything else? Ask us on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight.
