Why a black smart wall socket exists
The hardware is identical to the white socket. Same universal outlet, same two USB ports, same 13A rating, same app. Nothing technical separates them.
A black smart wall socket is for the walls where a white face is wrong: a dark feature wall, a media unit, a charcoal or grey painted room, a kitchen with dark cabinetry. On a white wall the white version disappears just as well. Choose on the wall, because there is nothing else to choose on.
An electrician fits it, not you
It is wired in, not plugged in. It replaces the socket in the wall box and needs a live and neutral supply.
Plan that before ordering rather than after. If the socket is going somewhere awkward, or the box is an older shallow pattern, your electrician will want to see it first. We supply the socket; the fitting is their job.
One outlet that takes any plug
The outlet is universal: UK, European and American pins all fit it.
In a house with imported appliances that is worth more than it sounds. A European two-pin lamp or an American charger goes straight in without an adaptor sticking out and pulling the plug half loose, which is both untidy and a bad electrical contact.
Charging built into the wall
Two USB ports: one Quick Charge 3.0 at 9V 2A, one standard 5V 1.2A.
They switch separately from the socket in the app, so an appliance can be cut overnight while a phone keeps charging. The button on the face works with no phone and no network, which on a wired-in fitting is not optional.
What it is rated for
13A at 240V, RoHS and CE marked, on the Tuya or Smart Life app over your own Wi-Fi with no hub. Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT all work.
Wi-Fi is 2.4GHz only. If your router publishes both bands under a single name you may need to split them to pair it. For two outlets that switch independently rather than one, look at the twin socket. The app is documented at tuya.com.

Questions
Can I fit this myself?
No, and we would rather say so plainly. It is a wired socket, not a plug-in adaptor. It replaces the socket in your wall and it has to be connected to live, neutral and earth in the back box by a qualified electrician. We supply the socket only.
Will it fit my wall box?
Most likely, but measure before you buy. Send us a photograph of the existing socket taken square on, with a tape measure across it, and we will tell you. If your box is an unusual depth it is much cheaper to find out now than on the day.
Which plugs does it take?
It is a universal outlet, so UK three pin, European two pin and American flat pins all go in without an adaptor. That is genuinely useful for imported appliances and for guests.
Does it still work if the internet goes down?
Yes. There is a button on the face, so it behaves like an ordinary socket. What you lose while the network is down is control from your phone and any scheduled switching.
Will it charge my phone quickly?
One of the two USB ports is Quick Charge 3.0 at 9 V 2 A, which is the fast one, and the other is a standard 5 V 1.2 A port for everything else. Your phone also has to support Quick Charge to get the faster rate.
